    Gravity too heavy during bottling?

I just had a thought! I'm using flip top bottles instead of bottle caps. Should I just wait until one explodes, then flip the tops to vent the rest? Would that be enough to save the beer?

    Gravity too heavy during bottling?

I forgot to mention. The yeast should have been pretty good. It was one of those Wyeast smack packs and we let it expand for 5 hours before pitching. The beer has been fermenting at a stable temperature of 68F. I'm not entirely sure why it stuck, or whether I'm just misinterpreting the 1.040...

    Gravity too heavy during bottling?

I added lactose at bottling before and it worked out great. I had read a post somewhere that as a non-fermentable sugar it didn't really matter much when it was added. I know some bacterias can process lactose, so I figured I'd be reducing my chances of a bacteria taking hold if I added it at...

    Gravity too heavy during bottling?

Hi guys, I need some advice with my current brew. I'm brewing a Cream Stout from extract. It's been in the primary fermenter for 3 weeks. I decided to go directly to bottle today, and assumed that the fermentation would be complete after 3 weeks. I stupidly didn't check the SG first...

Cutthroat Pale Ale - Uinta Brewing

The page on uinta lists this beer as 34 ibu and 16 srm with a reddish color. Im pretty sure I can taste rye in the beer, but other than that I have no hints as to what the recipe could be.

    OG way to low?

Hi, I'm brewed a Maibock from extract and just finished topping up the carboy with water and pitched the yeast. I then checked the OG and it's shockingly low at 1.022. I guess I added too much water while topping it up. I tasted the sample in my hydrometer jar, and it's definitely too thin...

    Ball Lock Sankey Adapter

Old thread, but it came up when I was searching for an answer to a similar puzzle. Others might like to know: This conversion makes it easy to use those hand-held co2 chargers on a sankey tap too. I keep a regular half-barrel keg in the house fridge, tapped for drinking. I keep my cornies...

    Caramel cream ale?

Mine was labeled "Bavarian Wheat" packaged by LD Carlson. It's the package they handed me when I asked for "Light Wheat DME". I bought it locally, but I've seen identical packages of it available online. I never did find a product that actually said "Light Wheat DME". I believe Wheat DME...

    Caramel cream ale?

I read through the whole thread and saw several people mention replacing the vanilla extract with vanilla beans. I just happen to have 4 vanilla beans left over from the holiday cooking spree, and would like to use them. I saw no definitive answer on how many vanilla beans to use, when to...

    Storing beer in a keg

At the very least you'll want to purge any oxygen still in the keg. Keeping it at least a little bit pressurized will also help maintain a seal. How long are you planning to keep it in storage?

    Does Starsan promote rust?

I recently (about two months ago) switched from using One-step to Starsan for all of my sanitation needs. Mainly because Starsan is a better sanitizer with less contact time needed. However, since the change, I've noticed that both of my bottle brushes have a layer of rust on the wire from...

Cutthroat Pale Ale - Uinta Brewing

I'm looking for the same thing. Also, I think the link changed since the original post: http://www.uintabrewing.com/UintaBeerView.aspx?Page=Cutthroat

    Woops, forgot to add hops

The instructions included in the kit were generic for all of the kits the LHBS provides. It specifies a 45 minute boil, but upon purchasing the kit, the cashier recommended a 60 minute boil, and wrote it on the hops package. I do intend to reboil for the full 60 minutes. I'm about 12 minutes...

    Woops, forgot to add hops

I bought a "Mexican Cerveza" kit from my LHBS, and it included everything I needed. However, during the boil I forgot to add the bittering hops. There were no finishing hops included nor required in the recipe. I had chilled the wort down to 80F before I finally found the still-dry hops bag...
