    Going Backward?

I have a fermentation chamber which is controlled by Node-Red and a few temp sensors, or can be controlled by any of my Tilt hydrometers. I use this for SS Brew Buckets. But recently I installed a couple Brewers Hardware 20g jacketed insulated unitanks that are connected to a 4 zone glycol...

Is there a way to "automate/control/monitor" a Tilt and an Inkbird WiFi Temp Controller for Fermentation?

I think you'll want to look into Node-Red for device integration like this. You could use a Raspberry Pi as a TiltPi (using Tilt's downloadable software), and just add some Nodes in it's existing Node-Red flow to set different temperature setpoints for different timing or gravity readings. I'm...

Homebrew Welders - show us you welding carts!

I actually put my TIG on the bottom of a Strong Hands Rhino Fixturing cart. Since I use Argon for both TIG, Orbital Tig, and Purge, I have it wall mounted. Although everything is on wheels, it’s definitely not “mobile” like a traditional welding cart, the fixturing table is VERY heavy (5/8...

    Crane's Never ending Brewery Upgrades

Out of curiosity, what kind of work do you do for a living? Looks amazing! Great job, and nice writeup as always.

Set-up, Brew and Cleanup time-start to finish

I use an inline Endress + Hauser 63 series Coriolis mass flow sensor on my HERMS loop. It has analog outputs for temperature and gravity, and frequency for flow rate. I use an Arduino to capture the data which sends to a micro PC running Node-Red via MQTT. From Node-Red I’ve got a couple...

Set-up, Brew and Cleanup time-start to finish

Here's an example of a beer I brewed a few weeks ago. It had a 1 hour mash, 40m boil and 10m whirlpool. The total time from start (weigh/mill/water fill) to finish (xfer to FVs and system cleaned) is about 4 hours. This can obviously change a little, if starch conversion is done prior, I'll...

    Crane's Never ending Brewery Upgrades

That is quite the build, very well thought out! Amazing data collection too. What are you going to use for data storage? What size batches are you going to brew? Cheers!

    Tilt Hydrometer Push Notifications

Do you have node-red installed on the device monitoring the Tilt? If so, I'm almost done with a Node-Red flow for monitoring where you can create setpoints and will be able to push notifications. I'm beta-testing right now, it'll have some more features when I release it in the next week or so.

    Automating Kettle Filling?

I'm currently working on automating HLT/MLT filling using IFM SM6004 flow meters and GEMU diaphragm valves (but could do it with solenoids as well), with my existing Arduino being controlled by Node-Red/MQTT. Web app in Node-Red that I can select a Beersmith recipe file, it imports all of the...

    Crane's Never ending Brewery Upgrades

Great idea on the rugged boards, voltage spikes sure can wreak havoc with the boards. I sometimes get some flyback spikes form my natural gas ignitors, even though its all shielded... A Hot Surface Ignitor would fix that issue, but thats a bit of rework. I'm prototyping with my 11gal batch...

    Crane's Never ending Brewery Upgrades

Nice eBay finds! I thought I was the only one who has a problem with collecting future parts on eBay. But yeah, the InPro rebuild kits are dang expensive, my pricelist has them for $516 for a 4 pack of T-96... Ugh. Anyway, I love your build, keep up the good work. You saved me time and Arduino...

    Where do I Start?

Here's a bit of a deep dive. The things you're trying to control aren't super difficult, but require some background. Software and Hardware (control and interface) are the items you'll need to decide on. The control hardware is probably the easiest part, you need something that has WiFi, has...

    BruControl inline pH and SG

It all depends on what kind of price point you can afford. For pH, Mettler Toledo has some in situ process sensors (triclamp connection) with associated transmitters. Typically giving you a 4-20ma output with which you may convert to 1-5v as BrunDog mentioned (250 ohm 0.1% tolerance or better...

Natural gas "knob" for Blichman burner

Great success with both of these options, both have 1/2" NPTF or other size options. It has the ability to get my natural gas banjo (BG14) burner down to tiny little blue flames at each outlet, all the way up to full bore blue flames with yellow tips. https://www.mcmaster.com/45065K48 and...

Vacuum racking to kegs ? Minimizing O2 contact via vacuum ?

I use a Jun-Air dental air compressor as a vacuum pump when I transfer from AceRoto fermentors to sankey kegs. I connect the "inlet" of the air compressor (which pulls vacuum) to the gas side of the transfer coupler, and a dip tube in the fermentor to draw the beer into the beer side of the...
