    Hops 101

fair enough, my point was mainly was that you guys are missing the point of RDWHAHB. Relax....don't worry this isn't rocket science it is growing a very vigorous and adaptable plant. Good luck to all of you.

    Hops 101

Sorry if I sound a little cross but this forum is ridiculous! Hops are NOT hard to grow at all. They are extremely hardy and adaptable. These are facts: 1. Don't worry about not seeing growth until May 2. You aren't going s%^t this year. 3. Every environment is different...

I'm not real familiar with it. It is apparently brand new. Northern Brewer describes it as a bavarian strain, but does not elaborate much beyond that.

dry yeast my friend.....dry yeast. The best way to go. :off: I am probably going to do an experiment with the new bavarian wheat dry yeast from fermentis. If that works similar, I will probably almost never use liquid.

    Need opinions

Being this is not going to be an ideal situation no matter what you do, my first instinct would be to pitch the S-33 and forget about it. If you really want to use the starter, I would guess that would probably work too if you just waited. Higher odds of something going wrong, but still...

    Bottling a lager

from my experience you don't need to anything special. Just bottle it at whatever temp it is. However, I would dissolve the priming sugar into boiling water before adding to the beer so it disperses easier. Also, with a lager it will take noticeably longer to carbonate than ales.

    Alcohol smell!!

It should mellow out......it will just need to age for a while.

    What is Roggenbier?

I have been able to get rye malt through northern brewer

    What is Roggenbier?

OK, here's my simple method.....it works out for me, because with the extract I am not totally dependent on grains for fermentables.....so worst case scenario, you don't have as much alcohol. I used brewsmith for the calculations: and I put in the recipe according to what I told you earlier...

How long for honey to ferment??? 2 weeks and still krausen!!

most of the time it does fall when the yeast stop producing CO2 (which makes the airlock bubble) However depending on what type of gunk floated to the top to make your krausen (mainly variable depending on ingerdients) sometimes it will stay on top. The only surefire way to tell if...

How long for honey to ferment??? 2 weeks and still krausen!!

you're fine. It is not unheard of for the krausen not to fall back into the beer even after fermentation is complete, Check your gravity and proceed as planned.

    What is Roggenbier?

Heres what I did......this is a partial mash recipe, so if do all grain, just substitute for the extract. If you have never done PM, reply bakc and I can walk you through that (much simpler than some other explanation you will get). 6.0 lbs wheat LME (60/40) 3.0 lbs Rye malt 1.0 lbs...

    What is Roggenbier?

I actually just made one. Drinking it now. It is basically a wheat beer with rye and other malts added. It used more hops and is naturally a considerably different flavor than your typical wheat beer.

3 ?'s about my upcoming Hefe

Just go with LME. It is easier and cheaper. Just use about 6 lbs for a 5 gal batch. Then a small amount of the hops of your choice. The weinstephan strain produces more banana esters.....I beleive that is 3068. Good luck.

Is there a good beginner's wine book?

I recommend Step by Step Home winemaking by John Iverson. It is pretty detailed and starts simple and moves up from there. Covers a lot of different aspects of making wine from grapes....not so much on kits. But reading it will give you a better idea of what is going on with a kit so you can...
