I was under the impression that witbier yeasts were almost a requirement to the style. How did conan and forbidden fruit give that spicy note that corresponds with the style?

I'm brewing a white ipa for an upcoming competition. I was assigned this style of beer and although I'm not a huge fan, I'm excited to give it a go. I've found some great examples online but haven't ever had one I really enjoyed. Heavy Seas Riptide is the only one that comes to mind.

Maybe I don't know anything about this so if you could explain it'd be appreciated. Say my juice was what you measured (1.030) and 1 gallon. If this is the case, and my gravity at the time of addition was 1.020 (4 gallons), would it make the "new gravity" 4x1.020 + 1x1.030/5 = 1.022? Or is it...
Hi all,
I made a brew at my homebrew club big brew day and its turning out nice so far. 1.078 OG pale ale (maybe imperial?) and I wanted to add a nice watermelon bite.
I took a reading today (brewed on Saturday, pitched chico yeast) and its at 1.020. I added 1 gallon of puréed watermelon...
I have some really nice stout that I brewed back in early May. I netted about 8 gallons and have already kegged 5 of it. I wanted to take the remaining bit and add some oak spiral and whiskey. I've researched this a bit and know not to use an entire spiral but I can't find exactly how much to...
Hey all
I've been considering doing a brewsculpture build but really don't have the real estate for it in my garage. I also thought switching from propane to natural gas would really be convenient and allow me to upgrade from my turkey fryer burner.
I thought my basement would be great but...
Thanks for the advice
I'm going to start by replacing all the tubing as well as retrofitting my wort chiller - I think that my current setup (clamped with vinyl tubing) may be tough to avoid an occasional drip of hose water from getting into my wort which could lead to issues
Any advice...
how do you guys feel about this fermenter? its plastic but HDPE so I'm thinking:
Larger, so a simple 3 piece airlock should work even with vigorous fermentation
Removable Lid, so easy to get in there and clean
Spigot, no need for a siphon = easier to keg...
Hey all,
I've been brewing for about 2 years now and probably have brewed around 20-30 batches of beer. But the past 2 beers I have brewed (both extract) - a porter and a strong ale have both been victims of some sort of off/bitter flavor in the aftertaste.
I notice it right away but tell...
Hello all,
I'm having a problem with my current brew - I added about 4oz of hop pellets to the secondary and everything appeared to be fine with the kegging process. But I either got too greedy when siphoning from secondary to keg or everything hadn't settled out or something else but I cannot...
