I am working on my second batch which is a simple Golden Ale (my first I moved to a secondary and let it sit for a week before bottling and it now conditioning).
Here is what I am thinking of doing with this batch and I want to see what pitfalls I should watch out for or if my ideas are bad...
Awesome, thanks JustLooking. I started using the bottling bucket for primary so I can take the gravity reading without having to open the top.
Not sure if that was a bad idea....seemed like a good idea at the time.
I am moving my beer tonight into my secondary to begin dry hopping and I have a question about racking. What is the disadvantage/advantage of using an auto siphon instead of hooking directly onto the spout at the bottom end of the fermentation bucket?

The book I got with my first kit says secondary fermentation is used to produce a clearer beer. But I have never heard of cold crashing before, so I will look that up if it also produces the same result.
I have planned on moving from primary into secondary and then when ready for bottling...
I am about to transfer my first brew ever from my primary into my secondary and I am going over my notes I took during the actual creation of the wort.
When I moved my completed wort into my primary bucket (prior to cooling down to acceptable temp) I used a sterilized strainer to strain out...
