I had the same issue, fixed it by putting wax paper under the lids, seems to make a better seal keeping the fizz in.

It is most likely fine, give it a try you have very little to lose; if it tastes terrible throw it out.

Yes, you can use the baby with the mother in a new batch, once it is about 1/4" thick it can be used to make its own batch.
