    Are they 3000W though? To provide 3000W from a 110V circuit you'd need 27A of current! Do you have circuits other than 110V?

    I'm from the UK and I've got a 6 gallon Swan electric tea urn. It's got a 3kW plate element and takes about 10mins per gallon to heat from cold.

    Smaller than 5 gallon batches?

    At the moment I only brew 2 imperial gallon (2.4 US gal) batches. I haven't got the implements or the space to brew any more. I've only got 4 one gallon carboys, a 2 gallon bucket and a 2.5 gallon brew kettle. I just scale everything down but I still use a whole pack of yeast per brew.

    ginger chocolate porter

    Imho the easiest thing to do would be to brew up a standard porter recipe. On bottling add ginger essence and chocolate essence to taste.
