    Skeeter Pee

Four days later it's at 1.022 about 12.86 (The OG was actually 1.120)

    Skeeter Pee

I made a mistake that just seems like it wants to work. I tried to make a lemon wine (Skeeter Pee) (on 5/24/2020) using a basic recipe I found online. I did it just as it said, adding bentonite to help it clear out. After I finished making it, I saw I would have some of the lemon juice left, so...

    Bentonite question!

It's better to be safe than sorry. I started to use bentonite in my primary, and I found it works great. I buy mine from Amazon from Ohio brew so I can trust the source.

    Bentonite question!

DO NOT USE THIS IN YOUR BREW!!!!!! Only use bentonite from a known supplier, preferably a brew supply store or Amazon. Saving a buck isn't worth risking your life.

    Kool-Aid failed fermentaion

You could just make a simple sugar wash/wine then add the flavors along with some back sweetening after. I would think (a new thing for me) the additives in the Kool-ade would stop it from starting up the fermentation again. 1 gallon boiling water 1.5kg brewing sugar 1 yeast 1 tsp Yeast...

    Adding bentonite after first fermentation

About twelve days after I started it, the wine was clear with a specific gravity of 0.996 and tasted like licking an apple slice dipped in yeast. I added a Camden tablet than some Potassium Sorbate and let it sit for two days before back sweetening with a cup of brown sugar, taking back up to...

    Covid 19 isolation brewing

Hello from the state of Ohio. Not only am I not self-isolating, I'm going to random strangers home and bring them food. I work for a delivery company delivering food. I would suggest checking on the expiration dates on the yeast. Nothing lives forever. Much like myself, I keep my winemaking...

    Welch's Grape Juice Wine

I did this using apple juice. in about 12 days I would up with something at around 11.8% after I back sweetened. It doesn't taste like bread, just the best apple juice I've ever had (not as sweet). Note While it says 3 cups of water it was actually 1 1/2 cup. I don't know why I typed 3.

    Broccoli wine?

I think a prune wine (mentioned earlier in this thread) would also be a messy mistake — an alcoholic laxative.

    Broccoli wine?

I would think (something I try not to do) that you would have to fight against broccoli's natural bitterness, and it might make a better beer than wine. Most fruits and veggies used to make wine either have some sugar or starches that easily convert, but I don't think (ever) that broccoli has a...

    Show us your labels

It's simple, just like me, and as of right now, I haven't used it yet.

    Adding bentonite after first fermentation

I decided to try the bentonite in the first fermentation by starting a new batch. I'm trying a few ideas I saw on YouTube, including adding a pectic enzyme to juice, tea (made with three tea bags), and the baking yeast from City Steading's grape juice wine. I started with a 1.100 as of typing...

    Adding bentonite after first fermentation

When I racked, I ended up only getting 1 1/2 gallon; luckily, I had a 1/2 gallon glass container. My plan changed from two different attempts to keeping them the same and using the smaller one to top off the larger for the next rack, so I used the bentonite in both. I also made my usual mistake...

    Adding bentonite after first fermentation

Thank you, I think that's what I'm going to try. The directions, as well as a few YouTube posts, suggest dissolving in hot water. I think I just might get enough for two carboys so I'll do one with and one without and just see what happens.
