    El Dorado Hops?

Hey- Austin homebrew had el dorado on sale for like 1.25/oz, so I picked up a lb. getting ready to try a SMaSH IPA with 12lb tx 2 row pale. So- what did you think of your el dorado? With all the posts I've seen, I worry that the aroma and flavor will underwhelm (that it just isn't as prominent...

Dumbest Newbie Brewing Mistakes You've Made

Dropped glass hydrometer into a Carboy. Torpedoed to bottom and shattered. Had to research what the little weight balls were made of (graphite, I think), and not dangerous. Let them settle out, racked and strained through uber-fine mesh to get all the glass and graphite out.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Saison on the right. Historical Einbeck "original" hanseatic league export bock on the left. Both now bubbling away.

    help improving 60% efficiency

3 good write ups I like to reference on efficiency. Personally, I think that improving efficiency is best done while modulating the fewest variables possible (same recipe, same boil, same equipment), incremental changes each time to either temperature, time, or technique. Good luck...

    2nd brew - help!

Agree w Calder. You're likely fine, make sure you hit FG when the time comes, by testing a couple times, 1-2 days apart, getting the same reading, at the same temperature with your NEW hydrometer [emoji12]. As PetVet mentioned, fusel alcohols can have a harsh, solvent-y taste, and esters can be...

Forgot to boil corn sugar! It happens

You're fine, provided you got the sugar in a good solution. RDWHAHB. Don't fret. As mentioned above, give it a dark, room temp place. For educational purposes, it is quite acceptable to test a bottle every 4 days to detect the added sweetness leaving, and the carbonation increasing. You're very...

Second time brewing - Chocolate Milk Stout

Kcgator88- Things are going according to plan. Ale yeasts tend to form a krausen, a cheesy-scummy looking substance at the top of the beer, as they are top-fermented. Don't touch it! Let the yeast be happy, busy workers, as they want to be. I'd consider just taking notes on everything you see...

New member brewing Caribou slobber (moose drool)

Hey Ricky. Agree w bransona above- pics would be needed. Unflocculated yeast and also krausen residue can appear like mold. Good thing is that the Caribou Slobber recipe has a fair amount of hops and they act to preserve. A big question would be whether or not you racked it off the yeast cake...

    Lurker! Now Legit.

Hi, what's up, gals and guys. I've been creeping around and lurking the forum for years. Lots of them. I really finally got to the point where I feel I can contribute. Since I have been loving the posts, finding all of the answers I needed etc. A massive thank you to the Brewers out there-...
