First Time Keezer Build - What do you wish you knew/What lessons did you learn?

How have folks attached the collar to the freezer? My freezer is in the crawlspace under my kitchen, and I have a trunk line going up through the kitchen floor and cabinet to a tap tower. The clearance in the crawlspace is low, so I used 2x4s instead of 2x6s. Unfortunately, the 2x4s were a...

Electric Brewing Vent fan - HUGE leak - any help ?

augiedoggy, do you have photos of your foamboard hood? It seems like foamboard would be better than stainless steel with regard to the temp change/dew point issues.

    Etrog (Citron) IPA recipe help?

As noted in my recipe above, I did a 10gal batch. Kegged the beer after about ten days of dry hopping. Force carbed the kegs and started drinking a few days later. Got lots of foam and day by day the taste got more bitter and you could taste the alcohol more and more with each day. Some of the...

Setting up a Homebrew in Israel

Thought I'd reawaken this thread. Hope the brewshed is still churning out great stuff. A little more than 30 years ago I was in Israel and we drank Macabee beer. I was in high school at the time so I didn't know any better but we enjoyed it. Are they still around? One of these days I'll...

    Etrog (Citron) IPA recipe help?

I just got done brewing this (10gal batch). It's a recipe I've done before and came out nice without the zest: a nice floral, fruity IPA: 17# 2Row 2# Munich Malt .5# Victory Malt .5# White Wheat Malt .5oz Warrior @ 45 min .5oz Warrior @ 20 min 2oz Galaxy @ 5 min 1oz Citra @ 5 min...

    Etrog (Citron) IPA recipe help?

Rafi, I was also thinking about doing this. I have a great recipe for a tropical IPA (a tweaked blend of two great recipes from others in my homebrew club). I think the recipe uses a bunch of New Zealand hops, and gigayeast, which is really key to the tropical/floral/fruity quality of the...

    DIY Carboy/Keg Cleaner

Markolomew, what kind of pump are you using? The big submersible pumps pictured earlier in the thread seem a bit overkill, but your pump looks smaller. Is it producing enough pressure? michael

Long Draw Salt Water Chilled Beer Tower

Good question! I'll have to check for a differential. I set up the chiller pump to go on and off with one of those cheap STC-1000 units. michael

Long Draw Salt Water Chilled Beer Tower

When we redid our kitchen two summers ago I did this set up and it's been pretty awesome. I tried salt but didn't like that (don't recall why), then tried an antifreeze solution and that got gunky/slimy, so for the past year I've run a high concentrated solution of rubbing alcohol and water and...

    Kitchen Remodel (Pipe Dream)

My wife and I are remodeling our kitchen and when I joked about installing a couple beer taps she gave me a thumbs up (I've got a good wife). Here's the deal: The kitchen is located over a crawlspace that has about a 4 foot clearance, is insulated (spray on foam on walls, thick vapor barrier...

Wort Aeration & How To Build A Free Pump

Just tried it on today's brew and it worked like a charm. I'd imagine there's less risk of contamination with this method relative to what I usually do: using an immersion blender with a whisk attachment I whip in (the same) air.

American Pale Ale Dale's Pale Ale

I brewed niquejim's recipe last week at my homebrew club's first Big Brew Day at a local brewery. (We had a nice write up in a local paper, and then had a reporter from another, slightly bigger, local paper attend our monthly meeting and interview a few of us). This was my first 10 gallon...
