    Roast Chicken With Yoghurt Masala

Hey Ron, thanks again for sharing the recipe. Tried it today and was real pleased. As you said, perfect for a hot (pre)summer day.

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Sounds like a top ten list begging to be written

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

I just did my 7th brew in the Anvil Foundry 10.5 and like others I have abandoned the malt pipe. But I did not go to a bag, I simply returned to 3-vessel brewing. I mashed in my 10 gal igloo cooler and used an old brew pot as a hot liquor tank for sparge water. I heated water in the foundry and...

    Roast Chicken With Yoghurt Masala

@TasunkaWitko I will have to circle back for this one! I've got everything but the 24 hours to marinade. Thanks for the post!

Looks like a complete press to me

I like old tools, especially agriculture related, but can usually resist buying the big heavy stuff. This one I could not pass on.

Looks like a complete press to me

Idling around waiting for my car to be served, I ran into this. Looks like a complete working press and a call for me to expand my brewing operation to include cider. Or did I just make a mistake?

Chico yeast history, experiences, and how to culture

To close the loop, this is the SMASH I brewed with yeast cultured from SNPA. It's Maris otter and cascade. Could be more clear and yeast didn't hold to the bottom of bottles well, but has real nice flavor and explains why I use these ingredients so much.

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Mid-week fare: smoked and braised lamb shank over polenta with asparagus.

Anvil Foundry Mash with lid off or on?

In principle, I understand what you are saying and totally agree with you. I'm only 3 brews into this system and I seem to be adjusting the recirculation flow rate quite a bit. At least at the start of circulation when bits can reduce/cut off flow. Maybe with more experience on this system I'll...

Chico yeast history, experiences, and how to culture

I also contacted Sierra Nevada about yeast. They wrote that for Pale Ale, Porter, Stout, Celebration Ale and Big Foot: "The answer is it is the very same yeast for each one of these brands for both the primary fermentation as well as bottle conditioning. It’s a workhorse yeast!" This only...

Chico yeast history, experiences, and how to culture

Cultures from 3 bottles of SNPA. Stepped up from 2 ML, 15 ML and 150 ML. Using 1.020 and 1.035 wort with small pinch of yeast nutrient at each step. Next step would be 1,500 ML. Don't really need three 1,500 ML cultures. So guess I could combine cultures into 1 or store/freeze other 2. Thoughts...

Chico yeast history, experiences, and how to culture

I started Sierra Nevada cultures in 2 bottles yesterday. Then another today after I bought a 12 pack and saw the package date was November 9, 2021. Figured with yeast this fresh I should do 1 more. I followed the method outlined in BYO Big Book of Home Brewing and have separate cultures in each...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Yeah, I could have just misread my new thermometer, since 71C is roughly 160F. lol The system did surge at one point during the mash. Set temp was 155F and actual read about the same, but then actual reading started to climb rapidly to about 165F with an alarm beeping away like it was...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

You are correct. I did not recirculate until 10 minutes into the mash

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

So between the 2 of us we have 50 brews on the Anvil 10.5 under our belts. ;) Did my first yesterday. Think I liked it. I enjoyed not lifting a 10 gal mash tun onto the counter, then a brew kettle with 7 gal of wort on to the stove top. A couple quirks I ran across were widely different temp...
