This looks pretty simple as well. I really didn't want to get to fancy so I like the holes you drilled instead of trying a design.

Considering that your counterflow chiller can handle high heat, I would boil water and then run the boiling water through. That would actually kill off a lot of the bacteria and then I would run another rinse of star san just to be safe. Good luck! It's not ruined so don't throw it out!

Any resolution to this? My beers have all beer darker than I want. Yesterday I brewed a summer lager with about 9 lbs of Pils and 1lb of honey malt. The beer had a burnt orange color in the carboy. Will the color eventually settle or am I screwed?
