I don't want to open a brewery (and maybe you shouldn't either)

I LOVED this article. Very honest. But let the homebrewers give it a go, too. I am not a fan of these "facebook breweries" that homebrew, have a logo, a facebook account, and maybe even a banner or 2, but don't have a brewery or even a license yet. I believe the term is "brewery in planning." It...

    Vaginal Beer......you heard me right!

I know many people already commented that it's a joke, but I'll throw my vote in on that. It's a joke. And if it's not, well I guess it's just part of the progression of crazy in craft beer.

Please critique my Black EIPA Citra recipe

It's a high gravity, but should be good. I would personally do 5.5 lbs. MO and 5.5 lbs. Pilsen (the Low Tide has a 60/40 MO/Pils not counting any other grain). And 2 lbs. Crystal. I may even use chocolate malt full mash for dark flavor. 4 oz? Your choice. But keep black patent. I REALLY like the...

Please critique my Black EIPA Citra recipe

Use rice hulls to avoid stuck sparge. To get a darker beer without effecting the flavor as much, you can also use a little maltofirm in the primary. Other than that, looks great.

    Rookie

Should be OK. Blonde will end up a bit cloudy. Should taste great though!

    basic kits

$69 is great as long as you have the essential items. I paid about $80 for my True Brew Kit. The only thing I would recommend the first time around (that I was unaware of) is that some extract kits come with not-so-great yeast. Get a good yeast. Also, you may want to get a blowoff tube. The...

    Went to fast

Is it still in secondary? After cold crashing, you can test gravity just to see where you are. I have heard people boiling DME and pitching more yeast, but I kind of wanna see how this comes out. I am no scientist, but maybe the sugars were extracted well enough. If it is sweet, maybe you can...

    dry hoping

I have a bit of OCD, and I agree with this. I like to let the yeast do its thing. Dry hopping for a week or 2 before bottle/keg is enough.

    How to add lemon/orange zest

I've zested in the secondary and dumped it in. It sinks and never makes it to the bottle. I agree with all of the above.

    Tangy / Twangy Taste

Thanks for all the help guys. It really has been a ton of help. I just cracked one of my pilsners, and it was cloudy, but tasted great, no tang. The previous ones were tangy but crystal clear. Weird. Anyway, after talking with you guys, my home brew friends, and the master brewer where I...

    Tangy / Twangy Taste

Thanks for the help. But I can't get it below 70 right now. No AC and it's been over 80 outside. Even in a closet downstairs, it's pretty warm. I'll do my best though. I may also switch to water that has added minerals. Is that a bad idea?

    Tangy / Twangy Taste

I use bottled, distilled water. Now that I think of it, I am not a big fan of that water at all when I drink it alone. My fermentation temps are 72-78 F I normally use Kent Goldings or Northern Brewer hops If it is my water, what type should I use? I live in NY, so tap water is not a good idea.

    Tangy / Twangy Taste

Hey guys. I have been making some so-so brews lately as I am getting better. I am having trouble with anything that is not a porter or stout though. What I get is a tangy or a twangy taste. I am not adding citrus. Anybody else ever experience this? This has happened to me with my hefe...

Batch Size for All Grain & Mash Tun

I know this is a total noob question, but I need to know if I am way off. I just got into all grain and the batch size for many recipes say 5.5 gallons. My carboy is only 5. Is the 5.5 due to residual water stuck in the grain and boil off? Is there only a .5 gallon residual and boil off loss...

My Super Efficient 5-Gallon Mash Lauter Tun

I came across this when doing a search for a DIY mash tun and it changed everything I am doing. Any chance for that parts list? I'll probably be going CPVC the whole way. Is everything 1/2" except the nipple (3/8)? How about the ball valve size? And is the ball valve female to female? Also, does...
