    Not necessarily. For low quantities, a shop might use HSS (most likely TiN coated), although they would also (where possible) be using flood coolant. And for high quantities and deeper holes, they'd likely use carbide. If a cobalt drill chips, it can be touched up on a standard aluminum...

    Honestly, I think your money would be much better spent on sending a sample to Ward Labs to have it tested. Then you'll know exactly what's in your water and can make an informed decision on what, if any, corrective actions you should take.

    I recently bought some kegging equipment from them. Not only did they have the lowest prices on every single component, but shipping was stupidly cheap (around $1.57 or so) after a $5 discount and I had my stuff two days later. I've never bought grains from them, as I just pick them up...

    Yes, most of Bell's beers use their house yeast. Oberon and their amber ale are popular choices to harvest from because they're lower in ABV and hops, so the yeast won't be as stressed. This is the basic idea for harvesting yeast...
