First youtube video of me all grain brewing

Haha, I didn't even notice there was a Sobey's bag in there. I grew up in Yarmouth, and most of my family is in Halifax. However I've been living in Central Ontario for the last 20 years but I'm a very proud Bluenoser and I go back at least once a year to visit, I love it there. Cheers!

First youtube video of me all grain brewing

Putting some aluminum foil over the mash does sound like a good idea actually, I'll try that next time. I've wondered about using an air pump to aerate the wort, I might have to put that on the xmas list this year lol. I recorded the video with my phone (samsung S4) in my hand yeah, maybe...

First youtube video of me all grain brewing

Windows movie maker is what I used but I downloaded it and made the video in one evening so I haven't learned all the effects it has to offer. I found it to a great program to use though, strange that its not included in windows 10 and I had to search for it on google. What is your channel...

First youtube video of me all grain brewing

Hi thanks for checking it out and giving some input. I might do some narration and be on camera more in any future videos I make if any. My angle for this video was that when I watch brewing videos these days I find a lot of people are just standing there talking and I just want to see how they...

First youtube video of me all grain brewing

Hi, that was actually the first time I have used muslin bags to contain the hops, I normally just dump them in but since I don't have a hop filter in the BK it all ends up in the fermenter. I think using the bags is a great idea but I found that the small ones I have might be a bit too small...

First youtube video of me all grain brewing

Hi all, thought I'd share my first youtube video here, I'm making a 10 gal batch of Dunkelweizen, its presently the 2nd week in the primary ferm, going to transfer into the kegs in a couple more weeks I think. This is also the first brew day with my new 15 gal kettle and banjo kab6 burner...

Advice for Manual Propane Single Tier Brew Set-up

I bought my original propane burner at Home Depot in Ontario for 30 bucks in-store. Price looks like its increased though. ( http://www.homedepot.ca/product/propane-burner-r65/863287 ) Its good for 5 gal batches, 10 gal it takes pretty long to bring to a boil but it worked. I recently bought a...

    Insanely Low OG

I used to make the mistake of adding my grains to the mash tun before the water, ended up being way too hot and I think it destroyed the enzymes needed for starch to sugar conversion. The beer had a very low OG but still turned out ok, i learned to add the water first, let the temp stabilize...

Anti-channeling mash tun design for fly sparging

Yeah that's true, I was thinking they would have to be fairly thin, no more than 1/4" thick or so. I'm going to try it without and see how my extraction goes but its always fun to tinker with the equipment :p

Anti-channeling mash tun design for fly sparging

Hi, I'm going to give fly sparging a try for the first time in a couple weeks and have heard that water channeling between the grain and the smooth mash tun walls can decrease efficiency. Was thinking what if I was to attach some square edged strips of something to the walls in a horizontal...

    How to control lautering speeds

i have around 10 litres in the MLT. Yes I was batch sparging before with no problem but I wasn't really concerned with the flow rate either. The only other thing I have done since the last brew was soldered all the pieces of my lauter manifold together so theres no way for air to escape...

    How to control lautering speeds

Not sure, maybe its not siphoning..it seems like when i only crack the valve 1/2 way and there's no wort in the bucket the hose doesn't really fill up while its draining but after its underwater the hose becomes full and starts draining much faster. Maybe there is an airlock in the copper...
