    Ss Brewtech eBrewing

Got carried away and set it up too fast to get many photos. I did a quick clean and measured boil off which looks to be 2 gal hr when just set to automatic. The RIMS is the star of the show so far though. It kept the mash at between 150 and 152 steadily. The mess around the brew station will...

Ss brewtech mash tun temp problems

I've been using the 10 gallon infussion mash tun for a while and noticed that if I preheat the tun before using it you'll have an easier time maintaining mash temp. I'm waiting on the delivery of my 20 gallon set up with RIMS so I hope that the rims will also help prevent mash temp issues.

Are you recirculating with a HERMS or RIMS or batch sparging?

    Questions About Going Electric

So, we have to have an electrician come in and replace our fuse box (old fusebox original to a 40+ y/o house) and I figured now would be a good time to convert to electric brewing. I've been doing 5 gal all grain on propane for years now. SS Brewtech appears to have a pretty nice but expensive...

    Cleveland craft beers

Great Lakes Brewery is located across the street from West Side Market (most anyone in cleveland can direct you to the market). They have a full brewpub and keep alot of beers on tap with growlers for sale. In addition I believe they have a store where you can buy bottles from. Buckeye Brewing...

    First Homebrew tasting

I have a great lakes Christmas Ale clone sitting and clearing up it will have been there 2 weeks this friday and I have an Irish Red Ale that was pitched on Sunday night. Next brew? I'm not too sure I have some intention of finding and making a festbier from Gordon Biersch clone but I...

    First Homebrew tasting

So I figured I'd pop open my first bottle to taste knowing it's still a bit green. It gushed a tiny bit about 20 seconds after opening. Poured into a Belgian glass since it's a Belgian. Nice head great mouth feel a slight banana taste in the back end. No Belgian funkiness. Cannot wait for it to...

    Oak Aging

Just pitched the yeast on an Irish Red Ale OG of 1.052 wanted to know if I can add Oak soaked in rum or Jameson. When should I add it and should I transfer to a secondary or just keep it in primary.

Winter Seasonal Beer Great Lakes Christmas Ale Clone

Took an SG reading today and the OG of 1.082 and an SG today of 1.010. Great color, hard to tell the flavors individually so I'm guessing it's all balanced out pretty well.

First timer going in for the plunge

I'm a newbie myself having only bottled my first batch. But... Brewday for both of my brews was fun and informative. Both of my brewdays have been different and caused some challenges but as I keep hearing if you keep your stuff sanitized you have to try to screw up to destroy your beer...
