    Recirculation systems

So I got my head around RIMS and HERMS, even though I don't like the acronyms as they aren't accurate descriptions... and now I'm learning about the Blichman Tower of Power. Where does that fit in, and does it have a different acronym/name? It's also a RIMS, but heats the false bottom space with...

    Tower of Power

Love the idea of getting one of these. I'm curious how big of a system these can handle, for example, a 1 or even 3 bbl commercial micro system? Assuming appropriate burner size for the bigger vessels, and the pumps can handle the bigger flow volume, am I missing any limiting factor ? Cheers.

    Star San

I thought if give it a go (I use iodiphor). It foamed like a m-fckr. What's the deal!? It was impossible to get out of my keg.

Break material, and dead space in boil kettle

I get huge amounts of break, and leave too much wort behind. I use a converted Sankey keg as a boil kettle, with weld-less fittings (fitted reasonably high as they don't sit we'll on the curved part of the lower wall) and a straight/level copper tube inside reaching to the centre, with a...

    Anyone tried Cola bottles ?

They work great, no probs. I also have some 'stealth stout' in them right now. Keep them out of the light though.

What's the campden tablet for, and how are you using it exactly?

    Mash consistency

Thanks for all the ideas. So if the mash thickness doesn't affect the conversion all that much, and a thinner mash is filling up the kettle to quick, perhaps I should mash thicker, and sparge bigger for a proper sugar rinse? I don't think my rectangular cooler mash tun and bazooka screen is...

    Mash consistency

John Palmer specifies 2 quarts water per pound of grain, for a basic mash. This seems very thin. I've been having problems with efficiency, perhaps partly because I must sparge with less water, or my boil volumes are consistently too high. Ive rarely seen as much as 2qt/lb quoted anywhere else...

    Belgian Wit Advice

I might try this recipe, sounds great! Is the wheat malted?

Help - Missed My OG by a mile

I've also been missing my target gravity by a mile. I just tried to make a strong IPA using 13lbs Pale Malt and 2lbs Pale Wheat Malt, and 1.5lbs crystal and 0.5 corn sugar. My OG was 1060, though my liquid volumes were out (too much) and there was a lot of wort left behind in the kettle, perhaps...
