Anyone else on here that make their own brewing water and can chime in please? Telling me that I'm not doing it correctly, but not offering any reason why is not helpful... and I'm starting to think...
Here is what no. 3 says:
"3. Find and enter your source water's mineral levels on line 4, tune target levels as desired (line 5)."
I'm using distilled water like I mentioned above, so everything is zero and I didn't miss anything?
On the calculator what part did I do incorrectly? It seems that I followed the directions like I was supposed to, what am I missing?
My tap water tastes and smells like crap. All I want to do is get distilled water, add chemicals to it, and use this instead of my tap water.
Hey guys,
I am wanting to get 8 gallons of distilled water and create a simple brewing water out of it for use in the HLT (mash, sparge, adding volume, etc.)
I am using this calculator here:
http://www.brewersfriend.com/water-chemistry/
I selected 8 gallons, and "Balanced Profile".

Thanks for the responses.
I understand I need to get gypsum (calcium sulfate), calcium chloride, and lactic acid. I also need sodium chloride and magnesium chloride.
How do I figure out how much of this to add to the water to get the desired water profile?
So trying out this link that...
I'm a bit confused how to use this...
I was expecting to be able to set the amount of volume to treat, enter 0 for starting since its RO or distilled water, select the style, and have it tell me what to add.
It seems it wants me to tell it how much minerals and salts to add? I'm confused...
Thanks for the replies!
I have a couple questions for you if you don't mind:
What is RO water?
Where are you getting the chemicals/minerals for this?
Do you have any water recipes that use said chemicals/minerals?
Thanks again!
Hey guys,
I live in Thornton, Colorado and the water here is terrible. The water comes from 2 different sources depending on the time of the year (Standley Lake which is decent, or the Platte River which is terribly contaminated... or sometimes is a mixture of both). Each source produces...
Hello, I currently have this fermenting on its 4th day. I have a quick question. Here is what you mentioned in your original post:
Primary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 7days @ 68f
Additional Fermentation: 7 days keg conditioned while force carbing
Secondary Fermentation (# of Days &...
Hey guys, thanks for the replies! You are absolutely correct... I did not realize I had to correct my gravity readings...
I just now used this: http://www.brewersfriend.com/refractometer-calculator/
I typed my OG and FG values into it, and sure enough, the corrected final gravity matches...
