Batch 100 - American Stout (dextrose in the fermenter?)

Brewed today and it was just easier to put the dextrose in at the end of the boil. Ended up making it a 15 gallon batch (for three kegs).... split three ways and pitched US-05 / S-04 / Mangrove Jack Belgian Tripel #M-31 -Mike Recipe: 100th batch! American Stout TYPE: All Grain Style...

Batch 100 - American Stout (dextrose in the fermenter?)

The goal is to have a keg of the "imperial version" of the American stout and second keg (all malt / no dextrose). Beersmith can easily calculate the ABV% bump but what I really want to avoid what is perceivably too much. The BSG pack of dextrose I have is 4 pound but that seems excessive...

Batch 100 - American Stout (dextrose in the fermenter?)

Hey, I made it batch 100 is next.... I want to do a split batch of American Stout.... but then drop #1 or #2 of dextrose (corn sugar) into the fermenter at high kroysen or just after. How much dextrose do you think, I can sneak into a 5 gallon (half of the) batch? This is recipe for the full...

Flies in the fermenter (how to clean)

I got lazy... I racked to beers into two kegs (8% IPA US-05) and then left the yeast and 1/2 gallon of beer in the side yard next to the trash cans. Today it's like 90F outside and I discovery my lazy ways.... with bubbling and flies in the fermenters. Note: Fermenters are 7 gallon with...

Double Blind Fail - floating dip tube

Hey thought I'd share my failure "success" in accidentally doing a double blind test. I brewed 10 gallons of Double IPA 8.1% all 2 row (10ml Columbus hop extract, 10ml Centennial hop extract, 1/2# Amarillo at the end of the boil, 4oz times two dry hop charges with Citra). I put 5 gallons of...

    COVID-19

Q: I wonder what it's like working in a brewery where you can just pull a beer on tap during your working shift. A: COVID-19 Anybody else?

How long do i keep the blow-off tube hooked up?

I now use the 7 gallon FerMonster, that might seem like too much headspace but I'm always done in 10-12 days so I think the risk of oxidation is minimal.

    Is my kolsch infected?

looks bad to me... i've never had anything like that. I'd be willing to smell / taste it. If you keg, I'd do that. If you bottle, not sure if you might have problems. I wish you luck.

    No longer drinking

Good that you are focusing on your health. I know that beer has affected my weight and as a cyclist I feel that I could be a lot happier on and off the bike if I was able to drop below the 225lbs (6'1") size that I am. But then again, 8% IPAs.

How long do i keep the blow-off tube hooked up?

The honest answer is "as long as needed:".... but usually primary fermentation for ales is 2-3 days. I never need a blow off now that I have learned to control my fermentation temp and have fermenters with antiquate headspace. That being said there are a few yeasts that are known to blow...

    Brew-daddy

Yes, we've done this a few times. I think the question is more about is it fair / is it worth it. My volume is 15 gallons finished into 3 kegs. 40# of grain in a 70-quart mash tun This was the batch before last... Recipe: 092 I have a dream - NEPA Recipe Specifications...

    Brew-daddy

I agree I used the kryo hops only for dry hopping into the fermenter. This time I used a pound of Amarillo in the kettle and the time before I used a pound of Azacca.
