    Hop Stand/Whirlpool - Getting great hop aroma/flavor

I would love a sample. Just kegged a 5 gal dipa with 18oz in the boil/whirlpool and about 7 oz dry hop. Would be great to compare, I think the hops I got were on the older end and I am lacking aroma that I thought would be there a little stronger. Let me know and I can front some shipping cost...

    Lactose

I usually add it with 15 min to go just for the usual sanitation reasons. Looks like an interesting brew. Will be curious to see how it turns out.

Coconut porter infection or coconut goo?

I will be interested to know how much coconut flavor you get from that method. Good luck in the competition!

Coconut porter infection or coconut goo?

That almost looks like coconut oil to me. At room temp or below its pretty solid, but if the temp is raised to say 100 f or above it goes to liquid. Just a thought. Maybe pull a chunk of the white stuff out and inspect. Good luck! Edit: I'm not saying to increase the temp of your beer to 100f...

    Kegging n00b

for reference on height. They are obviously upside down but if u zoom u can see the purge valve on the taller ball lock lid and not on the pin locks.

    Kegging n00b

I own and operate both types of kegs currently, and they both are very similar. The ball lock kegs are several inches taller and a little bit skinnier than the pin lock kegs. So if height is an issue in your kegerator, make sure to measure the height of the kegs before purchase. The actual...

DIY or 20% off wort chiller?

I made my own out of copper, very easy to make and a 50' diy chiller will still be cheaper than a 25' purchased one. 50' may sound like a lot but when I built mine it was for 5 gallon batches. It can chill boiling wort to pitching temp in less than 15 min. As for bending it, just wrap it...

    Fermenting help.

This is not true. Most people do not make starters for dry yeast, but depending on the og of the brew a starter may very well be needed to pitch the correct amount of yeast. Definitely worth a look at the calculators to determine what's best.

Scored some fresh hops - advice?

I was under the impression that you did not want to freeze wet hops as it would somehow damage them. If they were fresh hops that were dried before given to you that's a different story. Good luck with the brew. My wet hop ipa is just now getting conditioned in the keg. Still some sharp flavors...

Best method to cleaning ball lock Cornelius Kegs

A dip tube brush is a must have. Could help some with the smell. Mine always had some minor smell of whatever was in them before (7-up, Pepsi...etc...) but after one use this smell always went away and I never had any sort of pop flavor in my beer. Of course I cleaned them all very well prior to...
