Poll - Wyeast 3724 - Worth the hassle?

I've only got a couple of brews under my belt, but my second beer (first all grain) was a Saison with 3724 and it turned out awesome. I fermented it for a month in my garage during the summer (so like 86 degrees). I get major compliments about the beer when people have it so yeah it's worth the...

    Too Cold During Fermentation

OK thanks guys. Yes fermentation should be complete. Actually it's been about 2 weeks since that happened (which was 2 weeks after beginning fermentation) and I've had it back up at temp with no change in gravity readings. I plan on bottling tomorrow.

    Too Cold During Fermentation

So a few weeks ago I brewed an IPA with some buddies. I have a chest freezer setup as a fermentation chamber to maintain the temperature. After fermentation was complete, I was planning on cold crashing the beer before dry hopping. I just used standard US-05 dry ale yeast. Well, sometime before...

    Lowes Food Grade Buckets

Just thought I would give some feedback as I have been using these. They work great, though they are quite thin walled so you have to be careful of the lip when removing the lid (pull it a little at a time all around). Also, it can be a little tricky to get the lid on because of the gasket, but...

    Minimum Headspace on Fermenting Bucket

    Yes, temperature controlled fermentation.

    Minimum Headspace on Fermenting Bucket

I picked up some food grade 2 gallon buckets with gasketed lids and am planning on using them as fermenters for smaller batches. I was wondering what the minimum headspace is that I could probably get away with and not have overflow out of my airlock. If I can get away with 2 inches that would...

Saison with Wyeast 3724 - When is it done?

Yeah you were right on, it was about 1.004! Bottled it this last weekend, now to wait for another 2 weeks. Yeah I actually had it in the chest freezer because when I started the daily temp was dropping down below the 80s so figure it would help insulate it some and minimize any rapid change and...

Saison with Wyeast 3724 - When is it done?

Oh ok I didn't realize that. Yes I do have a hydrometer it is just hard to read - but if it is finished I will just plan to bottle this weekend and will use the hydrometer to take a final reading. Thanks!

Saison with Wyeast 3724 - When is it done?

Hey everybody, Fairly new to brewing, only my second brew (and my first all grain). Have some questions about fermentation. I followed the saison recipe from this homebrewtalk post: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/6-beginner-friendly-recipes-and-styles.html According to the recipe: Wyeast...

    Lowes Food Grade Buckets

Just thought I would share that Lowes has 2 gallon food grade buckets and lids that they stock in the store for really cheap. Found them near the paint aisle at my local store. I paid about $5 for a bucket and lid and the lid also has a gasket in it. As usual, the bucket actually holds a little...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

Pics of the previous combo from Amazon that I linked, works great, just had to open up the hole a little more in the cooler and exclude the washer because of the wall thickness. This is a 1/2" setup and barb too:

Mash Tun w/ bazooka screen help

Step #1: Go onto Amazon, report a problem with your order as "item not as described." Amazon should allow you to return the item for free and get your money back. Step #2: Order one that is actually 1/2 in like this one I just ordered the other day and it's only $5...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

Yeah buying individual brass fittings from the hardware store is expensive, plus there's the surface lead thing (which I know can be removed). I also got one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0064OFCHW/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 So $30 total. Looking at the hardware store I...

    Temperature Controller

I use an Inkbird ITC-1000 ($16 on Amazon). It has been working just fine so far. Note that this controller does need to be wired up and it meant to be mounted in a panel or enclosure but it's super cheap and works: Most of the cheaper controllers out there are all the same, just Chinese...
