Keezer issue - temp rise, compressor issue?

My keezer of 1-2 years just did a jump in temp overnight. It used to hover around 40f and now sits at 55f and can't get it any colder. The light on the freezer is on, I hear it running (albeit maybe not as loudly as before) and the side of the freezer that used to get quite warm when running...

Thanks, I just bought one on ebay (I'm in Canada). Will be nice to get this working properly for a change :)

    DIY Beer Line Cleaner

I'm lost - I built the same design as post 1 in this thread except not a single post in my house will properly fit onto the 3/8 flare to 3/8 fip adapter. The best I can do is half a turn onto the adapter and then hope and pray I don't put any sideways force on the connection or it falls off...

Can You Brew It recipe for Rogue Dead Guy Ale

I've tried brewing this twice now and cannot get that delicious heavy-malty flavor to come out. All I end up with is a thin, lifeless, low-hop "pale ale" for lack of a better term. It's drinkable but not even remotely close to RDG. Can someone help me here? Here are the malt bills I have in...

British Brown Ale Aberdeen Brown Ale (NewCastle Clone) AG

ryandean - I used s-04 my first batch and 1099 the second batch. Supposedly they are the same strain but my second batch with liquid 1099 was much, much better than the first batch with rehydrated s-04. Could have been any number of other variables (such is brewing) but regardless, that's my...

British Brown Ale Aberdeen Brown Ale (NewCastle Clone) AG

I have my beersmith efficiency set to 75% and I do 5.5 gallon batches - are you using a lower or higher number? That would do it.

British Brown Ale Aberdeen Brown Ale (NewCastle Clone) AG

I just made this beer for the second time (first time was a compromise across the board on ingredients and wanted a "true attempt" this time). I dropped the roasted barely as last time it felt really out of place compared to the commercial example (although tasty I wouldn't have pegged it...

    Bulk aging on nibs?

I searched my hardest and just could not find the answer to this. It seems that nibs are recommended to be used in secondary, but I read a lot about people tasting and kegging/bottling once the chocolate flavor is where they want it. What I don't read about is how nibs are used in a...

Chocolate Cranberry Stout - When and how much?

Looking to try my hand at something that will land in the ballpark of a Muskoka Double Chocolate Cranberry Stout. I can build a basic imperial stout recipe but the chocolate and cranberry amounts and "when" really get me. Right now I threw a dart in the dark and hit: - 0.5 lbs low fat...

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

So I brewed a batch using the above substitutions with s-04 and it has been my favorite beer to date. Super drinkable, the hop bitterness is very rounded, it's just the kind of beer you could easily drink all day. Love the color, love the flavor. I believe I've found the first beer that will...

Are you a top sludge remover ?

There's no good reason to so I don't. Beer making is a pretty "icky" process until the very end. You're soaking and gelatinizing grains, throwing leafy hop matter into the pot of boiling grain-water, creating a ton of proteins and coagulation and debris, putting bare copper piping into the pot...

    Question About Pre-Boil SG

I was on the way out the door for the weekend, sorry about that - didn't want to seem like I was ignoring the replies and efficiency seemed like the most likely answer. I'm finally back now. I stated in my first post that the efficiency was set to 72% in beersmith. Boil off rate on my...

    Question About Pre-Boil SG

Thanks guys. On the next batch I'll design it in beersmith with 75% efficiency inputted and see if that brings me closer to the numbers I'm seeing. I guess all things considered having high efficiency is a good problem to have.

    Question About Pre-Boil SG

I'm new to all-grain. I've got 5 or 6 batches under my belt and use beersmith to design/calc everything for me. I've setup my profile in beersmith to what I believe is correct (mash tun weight, volumes, losses, etc...). Just kept the default brewhouse efficiency of 72% in the profile...
