Critique? Looking to brew this weekend

Also I just went with the single pitch of 1469. If it's good, I'll give the double pitch a shot on the next one :D

St pug and pdiet, thanks so much for your input. I ended up doing 9lbs MO, 7oz 90L, 8oz 60L,and 6oz of the biscuit. I'm really excited to see how this turned out. I can't control temps too precisely, but I did start fermentation at 66. Tomorrow I'm going to have it between 68 and 71, and...

Critique? Looking to brew this weekend

No, please hijack away. While the thrill of creating a beer from scratch is just about all I can think about, I don't want to make a crappy beer lol. Any and all suggestions/hijackings are welcome! In fact, I put off buying the grains just so I could have room for some advice

Critique? Looking to brew this weekend

    Haha yea I'm assuming my efficiency will be pretty low. My hop additions are as follows: 0.70 oz U.S. Goldings [4.70 %] - First Wort 0.60 oz U.S. Goldings [4.70 %] - Boil 60.0 min 0.50 oz Fuggles [4.50 %] - Boil 20.0 min 0.60 oz U.S. Goldings [4.70 %] - Boil 10.0 min 0.50 oz Fuggles...

Precisely. I was hoping for a bitter. The original recipe called for Crystal 80 and Crystal 15, but a friend had the 90. I definitely don't want a sweet beer. Thanks. I'll hafta fix that.

Critique? Looking to brew this weekend

Hey, this is my 2nd all-grain batch and 1st recipe, which was made by modifying one already on here (may have to improvise based on what I have available to me): 7lbs English Maris Otter 1lb Crystal 90 .5 lb Belgian Biscuit Malt 2oz Goldings 1oz UK Fuggles Wyesat 1469 West Yorkshire Ale...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

YES! Hopefully Saturday. Sunday if my grains don't come in time. Using my new turkey fryer, and doing my second all-grain batch. Looking forward to it immensely

    No Mill, now what?

Don't put them in a blender. The blades will "chop" the grains rather than "crush" them. You definitely want them crushed. Rolling pin is a good idea, but may take a long time. I've heard of people backing over them in their cars...sounds crazy, but it might work haha. Agree with above...

My adventure of opening a brewery in Chicago

Really cool. Congrats, I'm very happy for you. I've read several threads like this and it always seems like other local breweries are there to help. The first one had me thinking they were just in a good area for that, and then I came to realize that brewing is just an awesome business to be a...

    Jasper's?

I posted somewhere else about my beers having a distinct taste. It isn't bad, just distinct. I have tried to figure out what it is. I've pretty much tried changing everything I could think of, and so if this the source, I'm forever indebted to you! It's not advisable to do this even if it's...

    Jasper's?

This sounds normal. I think you generally boil off quite a bit of water during the boil, but as far as I know it's just water. It's like reducing the wort to a more concentrated wort. The stuff you boil is what comes as LME, but water is taken out of it. I don't foresee a problem here. If it...
