    Son of Fermantion Chiller

I was able to complete my two chillers, and so far the one I have used works very well. Without an active fermentation in it I was able to get it down to 44.2 F with a room temperature of 85 F. That was a full load of ice and the thermostat set as low as it could go. I know the ice wont last...

    Son of Fermantion Chiller

In the San Diego area I was able to find the extruded polystrene at Dixieline. It was called foil 2 sides, it has a thin foil like layer on the outside, it has cut and glued fine so far. I still need a little guidance on the wiring though. I have a dc converter and the fan so far. I...

How much priming sugar in a CO2 setup...

That makes sense. I can get the nec. CO2 parts in the next week or two.

How much priming sugar in a CO2 setup...

OK, I understand no priming sugar needed with CO2, but I have a batch in secondary ready to be kegged. I haven't put together the frdige/CO2 system, so would I be ok priming the batch as usual putting it in the keg and storing at room temp until ready to chill and dispense?

    high gravity stout

I had a similar occurrence with my oatmeal-imperial just this week. A 1.092 OG (brother wanted it around 10%), the fermentation hit 79 during one of the days. I got it cooled back down to an acceptable temp, but I have the same questions you do about it. I should be able to get it in the...

    Second Fermentation

Sounds like the bottling bucket was used as a secondary? You would need to get the priming agent well distributed, and to do that in the secondary you would need to stir more, maybe getting more air into it than you want. I would want to move it to the primary and then back to the bottling...

    Adding Malt Extract after boil

I'm with Pumbaa. After I get a good boil going I move the pot off the active burner and add the ME then return it to the heat after its good and dissolved. I'm trying to avoid the direct contact with the heat and the extract to avoid burning it. I haven't tried adding it in different parts of...

    Adding Grain/Hops to a Kit

I would agree with some extra extract, wether dry or liquid to bring it up a bit. And sometimes some extra hops, although thats a personal thing. My first was a prehopped IPA kit that I added 3 pounds of light DME to and an extra 2 ounces of hops, one for bittering and another for some...

What to do when a recipe calls for hops at the end of boil...

I toss them all in and just pour the wort in carefully to not get much off the bottom. With the primary and secondary I get pretty clear beer in the end.

    Timeline.

I didnt do a full boil; I boiled about 2.5 gallons of water plus the extracts then topped off the fermenter to the 5 gallon mark. In the next batches should I go a little above the 5 gallon mark to account for the trub? I notice my secondary is not quite full. As for the extra gravity...

Yeah, I wish I checked the name on the yeast too, ive been trying to . It seemed viable to me when I hydrated it. I think it was about 75 when i took the first gravity reading before pitching, so does that deserve a temperature correction? The final gravity was taken in the mid 60s. Right...

    Timeline.

Hello all, long time reader, first time poster. I was curious to get some impressions of how batch number one is progressing. Its a Coopers pre-hopped IPA extract (3.75 lbs) with a light DME (3 lbs) for a 5 gallon batch in a 6.5 gallon bucket as the primary. I took all sanitation...
