Gearing up for first all grain batch

Is this the one you are talking about? http://www.ebay.com/itm/RSG-100ATCc-Black-Brix-Beer-Sugar-Wine-Wort-SG-0-32-Refractometer-HOME-BREW-/370899538292?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item565b55d174 Which I assume is nearly the same as this...

Gearing up for first all grain batch

I have an auto siphon - it needs a longer tube which I'll be getting when I pick up the freezer. I grabbed a cheapie plastic paddle @ lunch. It was the only option at the local store.

Gearing up for first all grain batch

I've been doing extract and as soon as we get a bit of a break here in Arkansas from the heat, I'm going to try my first all grain. I've been getting bits and pieces of gear along the way getting ready to step things up and wanted to see if there was anything I was missing or something I wish I...

    Inkbird Itc-308 Digital Temperature Controller

I've read some here on these and there were several people waiting on a review on them. Well, mine came in yesterday about a 3 weeks ahead of schedule and while I haven't hooked it up to a freezer yet, I have run a bunch of tests with it and it is easy to set up and it works fine. The case...

5 gallon hlt with 10 gal tun?

It is about $25 cheaper. It isn't a huge break. I do wonder if they are working on clearing them out. I was planning to go all grain when it got cool enough to ferment again but I wonder if by then the coolers will be out of stock

5 gallon hlt with 10 gal tun?

I was at lowes today and they have a sale on their igloo coolers. They had one 10 gal and multiple 5's. My plan had always been to get a pair of 10 gallon but I got to thinking; for 5 gallon batches, would you ever need more than 5 gallons of sparge water? Thoughts?

First all grain BIAB recipe attempt

I am going to do BIAB, no sparge as well.

First all grain BIAB recipe attempt

Throwing this out there for more experienced eyes. I used beersmith 2.0 (trial) and also recreated it on the beersmith mobile app. Orange Honey Cream Ale Grains: 7 lb Pale Malt 2 Row 0.75 lb Honey Malt 0.25 Biscuit Malt Hops: .75 oz Cluster @ 60 mins Additions: 1 oz Bitter...

Going all grain - equipment purchases

So do you just do a full initial volume on the mash - like strike + lauder at once - I assume outside that there are no real changes to the recipe.

Going all grain - equipment purchases

On the whole, does biab lead to a cloudier beer? Not a huge concern but I'm curious. It seems like it would

Going all grain - equipment purchases

I have considered this as I have a couple of large aluminium pots from a turkey cooker and a large gumbo pot. I think both are over 15g. I guess If I did that I would need to add a tap on one of them. In my mind with what I have today - I have a 5g kettle I could use to heat...

Going all grain - equipment purchases

I am looking to work towards expanding my gear to allow for all grain brewing. I've read volumes on the web and from Palmer and watched hours of youtube video but I am still hung up on a couple of spots and thought I might get some feedback here 1) Size I brew 5 gallon batches and I'm...

    Northern Brewer American Wheat

I am looking at this as my 2nd batch after I get my current one in bottles. I was going to add some orange just to try something different. Should I do sweet orange or bitter? When should I add it? I want some orange flavors but not a slap you in the face taste.

Very active first 24 hours then not so much

Got home today(Tuesday) and no real change. There is definitely sediment forming at the bottom and if there are bubbles passing through the air lock, they are more infrequent than my patience can last. Can't tell if there is any yeast moving around as it is still so cloudy. Fermenter temp is at...

Very active first 24 hours then not so much

I got the wort down to room temp before I moved it to the fermenter. I tested this with a sanitized digital oven thermometer submerged in the middle of the wort. The temps I posted on the closet are from a stick on thermometer outside the fermenter. I may check the local brew shops...
