Do your under age kids drink w/you at home?

Yep Legality and Morality should be loosely connected, but they are not the same. Just because something is legal doesn't make it morally right, just that it's none of the government business. Cheating on your spouse would be a perfect example of something that is (and should be) perfectly...

I'm going to be going back and forth to El Paso/Ft Bliss, Tx for the next couple of months. Can anyone recommend places to go with good food and beer?

    1st Strawberry Wine

I just finished bottling my 1st attempt at a wine. I roughly followed the recipe below, which is to say that I eyeballed the measurements for everything and didn't take any gravity readings or anything like that. Still 3 months later, i had enough wine to fill 9 375ml bottles and 1 glass left...

Can I use my chest freezer to cool my wort?

yep. I tried it in my kegerator once and it too almost 12 hours to cool. Better than nothing i guess, but not by much :mug:

What do you guys use 2.5 gallon cornys for?

My Kegerator will hold 2 5-gal cornies and 2 3-gal cornies so when i drink 2 gallons i transfer it into a smaller keg to open up room in the front, at full capacity, that's 16 gallons and 4 different beers on tap.

    Full boils with extract kits?

yeah, that's pretty much it, although the difference in the hops isn't much so i just don't worry about it. hopville.com has a free recipe calculator that can help you figure out how much to dial it back. if you want to know how much to start with, fill your pot with water and boil for an...

what's the black layer at the top of my Wee Heavy

thanks. I'll probably just let it ride, it's basically just a really thin film that doesn't look bad, I've just never seen that before, but the beer still smells great. The plan was 2 months in secondary, then keg and age for 5-6 months. Unless it goes funky, I'm going to stick with that...

    cool homebrew draft system

it's a good idea, if you can get the foam under control, i would add in some features to keep track of how much beer is left in each keg and who is drinking how much beer.

what's the black layer at the top of my Wee Heavy

ironically, it now appears that i may have my 1st infection forming there's a white film covering the top now. Still smells okay, I'll taste a sample this weekend and see how it tastes. Maybe i'll get lucky.

what's the black layer at the top of my Wee Heavy

Well, 24hrs later that black layer is about 3 inches thick so I guess it is just stuff settling out of solution. Never seen the color change like that though. it's like watching a glass of Guinness in super-slow-motion

what's the black layer at the top of my Wee Heavy

Northern Brewer Wee Heavy extract kit with specialty grains brewed 2 weeks ago. Yesterday i racked it to a secondary carboy. A few hours later i noticed that the top ~ 1/2 inch layer was black while the rest was a dark brown like i expected. WTF is that? I'm planning to leave it for about 2...
