    Bayou Classic 800-416 brew kettle

Hello fellow brewers! I have been using the Bayou Classic 800-416 as my boil kettle for a few batches now. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0082X3D06/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 I love what it does, but I know there's more I could do with it. I am considering buying another kettle...

Schwarzbier May the Schwarz-bier With You

I just finished brewing 5g of this stuff and from the hydrometer sample, I CANNOT WAIT FOR IT! Thanks for such an amazing recipe. I did have to sub in EKG for the Vanguard, but I think that gets me back closer to style. I also pitched 2 packs of dry 34/70 on top instead.

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

I am curious - would adding Truvia and priming sugar at the same time hinder bottle carbing? I added 3 tablespoons of Truvia fir a bit if extra sweetness. I also added my boiled priming sugar to the bottling bucket (after being cooled), and swirled to mix well. The Graff has been in bottles for...

    Gruit Experiment

I actually drank one tonight. I love it, but the flavors have sort of melded into one lemony, slightly bitter, herby note. It's good, but maybe not great. As a side note, it seems as though some of my friends who have tried it have reported hay fever or mild allergic reactions to the gruit...

    Dark-Fruit Rye Wine - Thoughts?

I cannot thank everyone enough for the advice! I'm glad that I haven't purchased the ingredients yet...it will give me time to think through this a bit more. Everyone says switching to all grain isn't that big of an investment. I would say that monetarily it might not be, but in terms of...

    Need some PM advice/clarification

As an update, I bought all the materials necessary to build a MLT with the orange drink cooler. I also bought the materials necessary to build a stir plate, along with a 2000ml Erlenmeyer. I just need to get my aeration system and I should be all set. There has been a lot of insight over on...

    Dark-Fruit Rye Wine - Thoughts?

And this is me being new to the whole mashing process. Am I the only one trying to do this much crystal? If I up the amount of 2Row, will I be able to break enough of the crystal down for the yeast to eat? How do I get down to 1.026 or lower? Those numbers were calculated from the website I...

    Dark-Fruit Rye Wine - Thoughts?

Motorneuron - Thank you for the response and the head's up. The Steeping Grains section is a holdover to the resource that I used to calculate everything. I am taking the initial steps to Partial Mash, and have asked some questions on the process on this thread. I will be making a MLT with a...

    Need some PM advice/clarification

I cannot thank you enough for you advice, St. Pug! I am super comfortable with a normal Extract + Specialty brew, but this one is pushing my boundaries on two fronts (high gravity and PMing), so I appreciate all of the insight. I am planning on picking up an O2 regulator and canister while I...

    Need some PM advice/clarification

St. Pug, thank you! Would you mind revisiting the recipe link above to see if I have it right? I tinkered with the grain bill a bit to target more of the flavors that I wanted. Does it seem out of balance at all?

    Dark-Fruit Rye Wine - Thoughts?

Updating my recipe with some more grains for a PM + Extract option. Upped the IBUs as well. Recipe Type: Extract with Specialty Grain Yeast: WLP500 Trappist Ale Yeast Starter: 1L Additional Yeast or Yeast Starter: 1 tbsp yeast nutrient Batch Size (Gallons): 5 Original Gravity: 1.113...

    Need some PM advice/clarification

So I am playing with a recipe for a Rye Wine that I want to get going with soon. The problem is, I feel that I need to do a lot of specialty grains to get the complexity that I am looking for. I have always done Extract + Specialty brews and am very comfortable with this method. However, with...
