    Lead solder on Immersion Chiller

Gave it a soak in some star San, but not much luck (we're talking green, not just a bit of tarnish, sorry should've been more clear) Unfortunately as well, it's not all of one piece, there's an elbow at the top where the coil starts, and one right at the bottom, returning up to the top, so...

    Lead solder on Immersion Chiller

Hey everyone, this past weekend I came into a free (score!) corona style mill and copper coil immersion chiller from a buddy I work with. He had it from an uncle who used to brew, so I have no idea how old these things are. I tuned up the mill as best I could, taking a dremel to grind off all...

First Brew Day is This SUNDAY!

When I last brewed, it was -20 C (-4 F) so it took quite a while to get my temps up (first time using my burner so I can't say how much longer than normal) You should be fine at 40 degrees. Have fun!

All my extract kits are darker than they should be

Certainly a common problem with any extract recipe I've followed. I've found that adding half the LME at the beginning of the boil, and half as a late addition (15 minutes remaining in boil) tends to help. I've recently moved to all grain, but it was rare for any of my extract brews to be...

    First All grain Blonde Ale

Big fan of using biscuit malt for a bit of body, and I second buzzerj's suggestion of additional hop additions. A bit of irish moss (1-1.5 tsp @15 min) @ 15 min never hurts as well, if you don't already use it. I typically ferment in primary for 2 weeks, secondary for 1, and then bottle. Using...

Any hope of having a HB on SB Sunday?

Hate to say it, but in all likelihood, it's not ready. That said, there's nothing wrong with having one during the game, as sort of a preview of things to come. For most of my batches, I end up sampling a bottle a week or 2 after bottling, mostly due to impatience.

    Homebrewer's Guide to Vintage Beer

I actually just brewed this last Sunday, though adjusted for a 60 min boil and subbing Victory for Amber. I'm interested to hear how yours turns out, as mine was my first AG/BIAB attempt, and I ended up mashing a bit higher than I would've liked. Certainly smells/tastes different to what I was...

    Sunday Morning

-17 c (roughly 2 f) here in Ottawa, and I'm getting ready to do my first BIAB in my new kettle on my new burner (Christmas presents) What the heck is wrong with me?

    Inconsistant Carbonatio

Bigger bottles definitely take longer to carb up, when I bottle in 22 oz bottles, it takes a minimum of 3 weeks, sometimes more.

Thoughts on my recipe - Blond Ale?

Thanks guys, I halved the amount of Carapils and flaked barley, and I've adjusted my hop additions to come in at just over 20 ibu, dropping the flavor and aroma additions completely. Will post results, thanks again.

    Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica.

Now I'll admit it was mostly for colour (and to see if it could be done), but I brewed a partial mash ipa using shredded beets last month. There is a hint of earthiness, but it's mostly overshadowed by the hops. Started out as a really nice ruby red, but has since faded into a (still nice)...

Thoughts on my recipe - Blond Ale?

Hi all, I've been coming here for info for the better part of a year now (started brewing this past February) and I thought I might run my next recipe by some more seasoned brewers. I've mostly been brewing to my tastes (stouts, porters and IPAs) and thought I should brew something that SWMBO...
