What do you do with the spent grain (from your mash)??

I was donating mine to local lady who keeps a lot of animals but her chickens in particular love the grains. By happy coincidence we got a puppy and were needing a dog walker service and lo and behold the same lady runs a dog walking business. When I asked her if she had availability she didn't...

    Vic Secret hop pairing ?

Let’s hope so but to be fair I’ve little experience with lactose only maltodextrin 😀

    Vic Secret hop pairing ?

You could use maltodextrin instead of lactose to avoid too much sweetness- it’ll help with body. 250g should be enough- it’s the amount I use in a NEIPA for a 5Gal batch to add to the body/mouthfeel. I’d say up to 300-350g of dry hop should do it. Beyond that I’m reliably informed you get...

    Vic Secret hop pairing ?

Hey folks if you could cast an eye over this APA recipe I'm planning over the coming days with Vic Secret and Galaxy - just got my hands on 500g (17oz) each of fresh 2021 harvest hops! Making a 19l (5gal) batch. I may use Citra for the flameout and I'm aiming for about 35 IBU total. Might not...

American Style Brown Ale Recipe Suggestion

Yeah I think 7% is right about where I’d start calling a beer too strong to have a whole keg on the go. I’m saying that the Two Hearted clone sits in about 6-7% and hides it well. For home brews I like to keep it in and around 4.5-6.5%

American Style Brown Ale Recipe Suggestion

I’ve been meaning to brew a brown ale for ages and keep meaning to do Tasty’s recipe. I’ll be doing it at some point likely over the winter.

    Mangrove Jack's Yeasts review (M15, M36, M42, M44, M54)

An enjoyable thread! Been using some MJ yeast recently - currently have a Imp stout bubbling behind me with M42. I'm brewing a second batch of it tomorrow (with some tweaks) and was gonna use two packs of M44 but I'm actually just gonna stick with M42. I've got a couple of brews in the...

    Brewery Name Help Please!!

What about a number code for drunk and disorderly or another ‘catchy’ police code? 10.10 Brewing perhaps?

    Brewery Name Help Please!!

Spanner Brewing - a spanner would be a name we use here in the UK to describe a fool or clutz - "Dave's lost his wallet, he's a right spanner!" Sometimes a tool can be a good name especially if you have a name which can have a double meaning like spanner can over here! Spud Bar Brewing...

Hi there, Irish guy just joined

Greetings! I'm originally from Ireland too but living in Edinburgh now! If you're waiting until you get back home to start brewing nab "How To Brew" by John Palmer and "Brewing Classic Styles" by Jamil Zainasheff. Some good reading and in both books and all the recipes in BCS's will be style...

    Imperial Yeast

In the U.K. Imperial yeast is £9.99 and White Labs is £7.99 For me the difference in price is negligible due to the higher volume of cells plus its a quality product. Imperial are my go to 'yeast pimps'! I've just put a lager on using Harvest with a few recipe tweaks since the last brew and I'm...

    Imperial Yeast

I think folks are drawn to the direct pitch due to the cell count as others have said. I've had no issues and I used a variety of their yeast - Harvest, Pub, Independence, Que Beuno, Dieter and Flagship and been happy with the results.

Dieter yeast for other than Kolsch

I used this yeast in an Altbier and it worked a treat. Fermented to the higher end of it's temp range and all in all it was a good beer. Hopped with Tettnang to have a little bitterness and the malts came through nicely. I'd certainly make it again with this yeast strain. I used the "Brew your...

When to add fruit to secondary?

I made a raspberry wheat beer and added 3.5kg of pasteurized raspberries to a 19l batch on day 2 of fermentation a lá a NEIPA and it made a good hazy milkshake type beer. It’s maybe too late now but if you’re doing this style again it might be worth trying out.
