    Hazlenut Brown Ale

So I went to Beer Engineer Supply. Nice people there, but their bulk prices were a good bit higher than what I'd usually pay. $55 for a 50lb sack of Briess two-row and $75 for a sack of Marris Otter... In CA I was paying around $40 for a 55lb sack or Great Western two-row and $50-60 for sacks of...

    Hazlenut Brown Ale

If you ever feel like coming back to hang out on the lake again, hit me up. I'm working on getting my taps flowing again.

    Hazlenut Brown Ale

Thanks for the tip on Beer Engineer Supply, I’ll have to check them out! I’m planning a triple batch brew day in the next couple of weeks to get the supply chain going again, which will all but deplete my base malt supply. So a bulk purchase is definitely coming. If you’re ever passing through...

    Hazlenut Brown Ale

Reviving a really old thread here, but I just moved across the country to Summerton and am hitting the same snag of having nothing local for bulk supplies. I do all grain on a 3V single tier system that I designed and built, and would love to meet some local brewers and even have some of you...

This thread is old, but I think it needs to be revived! I just moved into Summerton, SC on Lake Marion all the way from CA. I'm still a member of my old homebrew club, the Maltose Falcons, at least until I find something closer to home. I've been brewing for about 9 years now, and have won a few...

Black rubber coated keg for Mash Tun?

There is a typical stainless keg under all of that rubber. However, I doubt you ever get it all off of there. This was some time ago, but I actually gave the one I had away to someone that wanted to use it as a fermenter/brite tank. I ended up sourcing some non-rubber ones and determine that...

Upright Keezer, 8 taps, 11 kegs

I got mine from eBay and had to fork up the $20 in shipping. It hurt, but I was unable to find it elsewhere.

Weevil \ Saw tooth grain beetle infestation. Anyone ever experienced this?

Just a follow up on this for anyone who may encounter issues with these pests. I sealed all of my clean grain up and bombed my garage with two bed bug foggers and sprayed the perimeter and connecting hallway to my house with a bed bug spray. Then after three days, I moved most of the stuff in...

Weevil \ Saw tooth grain beetle infestation. Anyone ever experienced this?

Probably not the one that was the source of this infestation (that's a little too much insect matter for me, even), but the remainder of my base malt, yes. It happens a lot more than you think and I can guarantee you that you've already drunk plenty of beer that was mashed with bugs. It's...

Weevil \ Saw tooth grain beetle infestation. Anyone ever experienced this?

BTW, all of the infected grain should be good now as it's been in the freezer at -20F for a week, and I am going to be buying some more sealed containers for it today so I can get it out of the freezer and keep any living bugs from attacking it all over again.

Weevil \ Saw tooth grain beetle infestation. Anyone ever experienced this?

According to that missouri.edu link that lump42 just shared, it states this: "The most commonly used insecticides for this purpose are pyrethroids (active ingredient ending in -thrin). Common pyrethroid active ingredients include pyrethrin, cyfluthrin and cyhalothrin." The bed bug fogger does...

Weevil \ Saw tooth grain beetle infestation. Anyone ever experienced this?

I think the problem is that because my garage is about one half brewing equipment at this point, they are able to find enough flour or random grain bits that they still stay pretty widespread. The remainder of stored grain I have is all in sealed containers, so poison shouldn't spoil it...

Weevil \ Saw tooth grain beetle infestation. Anyone ever experienced this?

So, this is mostly my fault, but I had a sack of grain that I knew had some bugs in it. I separated that sack from the rest of my stored grain so that I could finish fermenting some stuff in my chest freezer and throw the sack in there for a few days to kill them off. I've done that previously...
