How to check impermeability of capped bottles?

Will try this with coke inside. I can't take the risk of doing it with brew inside, pressure should be similar although I dont know if it makes a difference. Also when brew is in the bottle, this can point to bad capped bottles. Thanks.

How to check impermeability of capped bottles?

Thank you for your answers. I was thinking about the water method, and would be ok I guess if I sterilized the water beforehand. But the quantity of the addition can be a problem, I guess. Twist method seems like a myth :). Just couldn't figure out the physics behind it, but will try it...

How to check impermeability of capped bottles?

Hi everyone, I have a not-so-good bottle capper and sometimes I think it affects the quality of my homebrew. Do you guys know any techniques to check whether air can pass through the cap of the bottle? Thanks and I wish everyone good brews.

Arduino to control temperature of HERMS/eBIAB

Hi everyone, I am trying to build a single vessel eBIAB/HERMS system. For the HERMS part, I made a small insulated box with an aluminium pipe going across which the mash will go through. The box will be filled with water, the temperature of the water will be measured by a thermistor...

    eBiab pump question?

Seems like a solid pump but 170 dollars is much more than what I spared for a pump. Any cheap alternatives to that?

    eBiab pump question?

I am building an eBiab system, however I could not decide what kind of pump I need for recirculating when mashing. There are a lot of pumps that are named recirculation pumps but most of them are for aquariums, which deal with cold waters. So what kind of pump am I looking for? Sorry for the...

    eBIAB or another system?

Hi everyone, Is eBIAB the simplest and cheapest way to achieve automation and repeatability in homebrewing? If yes, are there any howtos, build threads or tutorials on how to build one? If no, what is a system you would recommend for an all-grain brewer living in an apartment? Thanks in advance.

Reusing steeping water when malting at home

Hi everyone, I have been malting my grains at home for quite some time now and the problem is that when steeping the barley three times, I do not reuse the water for the three steeping sessions. This causes a drastic increase in cost of the malting process. So my question is whether I can reuse...

Next step after all grain brewing

I have done a lot of all grain batches over two years now, and want to move to the next level. I have been reading about electric and automated brewing but could not decide what to build to improve my brewing. I want to eliminate the exhausting process of maintaining mash temperature and...

Using measuring cylinder and a funnel for bottling

Thank you so much for the feedback. I am going to read throught that thread. I was planning to let the beer age about a week in bottles, thought the extra oxidation could be compensated with short aging time in bottles but it doesnt seem so as the feedback suggests.

Using measuring cylinder and a funnel for bottling

Hi everyone, This will be my second time bottling session and the first time was quite a mess with just only a hose and a sanitized hand :). I could not rack all of my batch and there was a lot of spill on the floor with inconsistent volumes in bottles. I just came up with an idea and want your...

What are racking canes made up of?

Hi everyone, My racking cane broke, so I was looking to make one myself, however I could not find any information on the material that it is made up of? I saw rigid transparent PVC tubes, plexiglass ones and policarbonate ones. Are racking canes made up from one of these three? Or is it...

Used only pale malt, turned brown after boiling

It was actually a 1 gallon batch and I started boiling when whole mash was in the kettle. I guess I just made the boiling a lot vigorous.

Used only pale malt, turned brown after boiling

Hi everyone, Did my first bottling today and remembered a question that I had when I was pouring my cooled wort into the primary. Because it was my first all grain batch ever, I only used pale malt and homegrown Brewers Gold hops that were sealed in a plastic container in the refrigerator...
