    Super Simple 15G Plastic Conical

Its been a while for anything new on this thread, but I wanted to throw out my idea that is working well. Similar to a HERMS coil in a HLT, (Actually the same tubing I used) I installed around a 20' coil of stainless 1/2" tubing in my plastic conical, and then on the outside, connected hoses...

Guys who have built PID controllers

I am going thru the same issue getting them to work properly. One thing that helped me in troubleshooting(other than being a Licensed electrician) was installing a Amp meter onto my control panel, its pretty easy to see if you are somehow running on half the power(if your relay works, but is...

15 Gallon Conical Fermenter Cooling System

ah, sorry, I just re-read your post. I imagine a keg would work just fine. I was mostly saying a metal container Vs. plastic would allow better temp transfer. I think the harbor freight pump i have would fit in the top of a 5Gal keg. I can check once its not in use. Brew day went great...

15 Gallon Conical Fermenter Cooling System

I am going to brew a Black IPA Saturday to fill this thing. I will keep yall updated. I would think the 5 gallon tank would work, my only concern would be that the heat exchange from the cold air in the keezer may not cool the recirculating water enough. Maybe try a metal stock pot or something...

15 Gallon Conical Fermenter Cooling System

Here's what i was talking about saying that i put the components into a cooler. The pump is just a $10 harbor freight setup. Garden hose fittings on top of conical, its 1/2" stainless tubing coiled inside, Id say roughly 20' it has (6) 9" coils below the waterline. I will be installing the...

    Sake Kit?

following the directions on the pack, the final result is something alcoholic that tastes like bread yeast. don't do it unless your planning on fermenting cold.

15 Gallon Conical Fermenter Cooling System

so I tried everything as pictured above, and it dropped my temp about 2 degrees. it was bad, but then I got creative. the mini fridge i used had the small freezer section that cooled the whole thing, so I gutted the fridge, and routed the freezer section into a small cooler of water. results...

15 Gallon Conical Fermenter Cooling System

its not the origonal post, but a similar design, and to answer the dorm fridge question, I dont know yet. i got the fridge last night and plugged in about 10pm. when I get home I will check to see how the temps are doing. I think I may add a Copper coil in line on the water system in the fridge...

    Growing Hops in South Louisiana

I live in North Florida, did Centennial and Cascade for the first time last year. I feel like they did pretty well. just water often, and in the early morning hours before the sun hits it hard. I would suggest a slow drip irrigation under a mulch bed. Good luck!

    Kegging

Check out any of the supply stores online, they have shutoff valves with back flow preventers on them. use these to prevent any possible back flow.

    Sake Kit?

The process has gone pretty well so far. Fermented in a 1gallon growler, shook it twice a day. about a week and a half in, it stopped bubbling out of the airlock. I strained in with a funnel that has a screen in it. now its in a smaller growler clarifying. it was pretty milky when i first racked...

    Sake Kit?

I started this kit on Sunday. Ill let you know how it turns out. I just went with the kit and nothing else. figured on the first try, I would keep it simple.

    Super Simple 15G Plastic Conical

I got my 15G in the mail Monday. Silicon-ed the seal between the lid ring and the tank so it has some drying time. Looks like I am cleaning out the garage to make room for a fermentor rack. I'm looking to go with a 1/2" stainless coil inside, and a dorm fridge recirculation system using some...

ChuckJaxFL's single tier, all electric build thread

Im a jax guy too. Jax Beach actually. I would love to hear how this build went. I am working off a home-built electric HERMS system myself. I am an electrician by trad, so it only seemed fitting to go that route. anyways. the setup looks good from what I can tell.

    2014 Hop garden photo thread

Second harvest on first year Florida plants. back are centennial, front are cascade. not bad for the location in my opinion.
