Home Brewing Biography
After retiring and selling my sideline beekeeping business about 5 years ago I tried making mead. After six batches of mead I had failed to make a mead that I liked and I thought maybe beer is better. After making 2 extract batches I switched to all grain and have since made around 100 batches, mostly 3 gallons batches and bottle conditioned. I only drink about 12 ounces per day so rarely keg as they last too long and the beer is too hard to give away. I am not a consistent brewer batch to batch as I am constantly brew a wide variety and try to reduce batch sizes to increase that variety which means my process keeps changing. I love the whole brewing process from raising yeast to the science of the process. My current process is either batch sparging or dumping the total sparge into the mash tun for mash out before laundering. Yeast farming and beekeeping are not that different.
