It is wax, and a different type than the bottle sealing wax. I actually use wax sticks made for low temp glue guns! I make them flat, and while they're still warm, shape them to the bottle (so the wax doesn't run down the sides), and apply them with dry epoxy dots. Also, thanks for the welcome...

I have no idea wtf was wrong with me when I started my mead, but I read the hydrometer wrong. VERY low SG (1.05) when I realized, and at the racking it had fermented dry (one month, by this point). Is there any way to save it outside of making a higher gravity batch and blending it? Perhaps...
