    Maple Bourbon Barrel-Aged Barleywine

I was wondering as to how much the Maple comes through? is it a very discernible flavour in the finished beer?

    Dana hops, any info?

You may end up with a beer that tastes of lawn clippings. :)

    Dana hops, any info?

whoops, I didn't report back on the outcome of the Dana Hops. well, very very subtle flavour, and a mild bitterness for the AA, in a smash it made a boring IPA. I used it to bitter a Cascade/citra IPA to save on the expensive hops and it fair well in a side by side to its all cascade/citra...

Specialty Grain: How should I steep?

Put the steeping grain in when you turn on the flame, take them out when it hits 160f and let the liquid drain out. Do NOT squeeze the grain bag as this will add tannins that will not be very nice. done, your not mini mashing so you dont need to convert and starches to sugars. Relax, dont...

    Dana hops, any info?

Pale malt and Dana hops brew has been in the fermenter for 5 days, it is sat next to my Centenial, Columbus and Simcoe 1.070 IPA and they are filling the room with a great smell of Beer Futures! the Dana Brew OG was 1.040 so should be a quick turn around time to find out what these hops can do.

My first brew is this weekend - anyone have suggestions for me?

Make sure your sanitation is done properly and you will end up wth beer. sanitation is the no.1 important thing on brew days. oh and relax, and (soon) have a home brew!

    Need a good ipa recipe

If you know the estimated OG then try and "match" it with IBU's so OG 1.060 = 60 IBU. This pretty much creates a balanced IPA and is how I start all my IPA and IIPA recipe designs then refine them. Just remember that hops @60min are for bitterness (most of your IBU's) and late @20min and @15min...

    HOPS to strain or ferment?

I use one of my BIAB Bags so they swim free in the Wort then at the end of the boil I just take the bag out (and give it a squeeze for extra hop goodness). I made my bags out of window netting so they cost less than £2 each and they have been used for years.

    Dana hops, any info?

Yeah I was thinking the same djfriesen, just wondered if anyone could weigh in before I place my spring hop order, if they are any good I could grab a few bags.

    Balance and going hop heavy

Thanks phenry, this will probably help me out as my last IIPA was disapointing on the bitterness even though i had calculated 80 IBU but most of that came from late additions. I had some imported oaked arrogant bastard ale at the weekend, and it didnt live up to my expectations so a...

    Dana hops, any info?

I have been googling around but can not find any user reviews on Dana hops, according to the supplier thay are bred from Magnum but have a more citrus flavour which sounds great to me. They are HALF the price of most other hops so I'm slighty worried about the quality of the finished beer, but...

    partial double mash?

That is iinteresting as i have recently listened to a podcast where the brewer breaks up his brew day into a friday night mash and saturday morning brew, leaving the mash overnight. I had kind of liked this idea for when I eventually buy a larger pot and mash tun. sounds like it might be fine...
