False Bottom + Ball Valve + Copper Scrubbie = Holy crap! Why didn't I do this sooner?

How does this full false bottom and scrubbee combo do with recirculating through a CFC? Have you tried it with all pellet hops? Does the flow to the March pump suffer due to hop restriction??

Hops: Hot-stand/Whirlpool vs 20 minute boil

A bit off topic, but...I did a Pliny the Elder clone last night (all pellet hops) and got into some trouble with my CFC getting clogged while allowing the wort to settle, post-whirlpool. During the roughly 15 minutes of settling, all the sediment floating within the line of CFC seemed to...

Samuel Adams LongShot Honey B's Lavender Ale

Sorry to dig up an old thread...but I tried this beer about a month ago and was shocked at how good it was. I was expecting it to be the weakest of the three samples in the sixer...not so. As to the earlier comments...I didn't get "wheat beer" flavor from it at all. It seemed to me to be an...

Chill: Prior to, or following my whirlpool?? Effect on late hop add'ns

I begin the whirlpool 10 minutes before flameout to sanitize all my plumbing, and continue whirlpooling (hot) for another 10 minutes, post-flameout. I then kill the pump, allowing the trub to settle for 15 more minutes. At this point there is no further recirculation; I simply drain the kettle...

Chill: Prior to, or following my whirlpool?? Effect on late hop add'ns

Let me start by saying I have a CF chiller and a pump with the ability to recirculate. To this point, I've whirlpooled and allowed trub settle while the wort is still hot out of fear that chilling PRIOR to whirlpooling would increase my risk of infection due to extended exposure to the...

Best combo of techniques to achieve lasting hop aroma and flavor...share YOUR secret!

I'm sure getting massive hops flavor and aroma is easily achievable by hopping the heck out of it at every stage, from mash to keg. And if I have to do that...that's what I'll do!! However, maximizing utilization of standard hopping amounts is what I'm really hoping to achieve. Something I'm...

Best combo of techniques to achieve lasting hop aroma and flavor...share YOUR secret!

If you're a hop-head who's found a method of creating a killer hop flavor, aroma, and retention, help better the hobby by sharing the techniques you swear by! Now I know there are a bunch of threads about each of the processes that can be employed (First Wort Hopping, mash hopping, hopback...

Yeah...we need to know!! This thread is worthless without results!

    march pump quick disconnect

Hey, look at me!! A rookie, reviving and old thread. Quick question...do these quick disconnects prohibit flow through their respective hoses when they are disconnected?? I noticed McMaster has that option and was wondering if it may be beneficial. Thoughts??

    DIY Hopback

I'm interested in the results of this and similar setups. Do you truly see a noticeable difference in hop aroma, flavor, and retention over time??

    Summit Horizon Red IPA

Thanks for the update! Horizon Red with no Horizon hops? What made you decide against the original hop lineup?

    Whirlpool in Electric Kettle?

For those of you who whirlpool and chill simultaneously via counterflow chiller and march pump...what is the diameter of the beer line of your CFC? I have a 3/8" OD CFC and am wondering if it will restrict the whirlpool to a point where it is too weak to leave a proper trub pile. I brew 5...

    Summit Horizon Red IPA

Sorry to revive this old thread...just wondering if either of you (or anyone for that matter) has brewed either of these recipes. I'm thinking of taking a crack at it to see if it's close to Horizon Red. What a great beer!! Summit's best, hands down!

boil off rate of a keggle

I'm, obviously, opening myself up to ridicule by reviving this old thread and calling out a "senior" member...but my God...The Pol (who, as I take it, has abandoned the forum) really comes off as smug and intolerant prick in MANY of his posts across a great many threads. I know he's provided a...

My method for sealing a heatstick

Yeah...I was all the way through the PVC when I cut...but as soon as I inserted the screw driver and twisted, it just cracked the J-B Weld instead of popping the PVC off. I have two sections of PVC sitting here next to me, and nowhere on the inside of that coupling did the J-B weld...
