    A couple of newbie questions

Massive thanks to the both of you. I found my measuring equipment, and pulled a sample, certainly I've hit FG now, which is 1.000 in this case, hehe. Started at 1.044 so should be in the vicinity of 5.8%. Will let the sample cool in the fridge a bit to let some of the yeast settle, and have a...

    A couple of newbie questions

A big thanks to you as well! I think what I'll do for now is just leave it in the primary for a couple of months, take a sample at some point and see how it goes, then bottle it for longer. At some point I need to free up the container for beer, after all. =)

    A couple of newbie questions

Big thanks! I am taking SGs yes, though right now I seem to have misplaced by meter... And if I sweeten, I'll be using artificial sweeteners rather than sugar, so I assume pasteurization etc. won't be necessary?

    A couple of newbie questions

Hello, been doing beer for a good while but first time trying cider. Nothing fancy, we just happened to get so many apples from a relative's tree that no-one knew what to do with it, so I thought I'd give it a bash. Situation: I got the cider, put it into a container, pitched yeast (basic...

    Non-Alcoholic Beer Poll

I would love to have access to even a pretty decent non-alcoholic beer, but they just aren't to be found so far. There are a couple that aren't horrid, but nothing I'd describe as actually good or decent. They've been good enough to mix into a proper beer to bring down the abv while still...

    Brewery names--what's your story?

While I can definitely sympathize with idiotic administration as well, the part that really jived with me was seeing the term "kilju" used by a non-Finn. It's great to see that something so reviled here can still make enough of an impact to be accepted as a term on the other side of the Earth. =)

    Show Us Your Label

Been a while since I did anything experimental with my beers so I've not had a chance to make any Niiralan Riviera labels, but yesterday I filled up a fermenter with an APA made with all Vienna malt and a mix of European and American hops. The title is (once again) a sort of pun. The...

    Brewery names--what's your story?

I have two, Brewery Niiralan Riviera ("The Riviera of Niirala", a silly name we gave to a small pond and the surrounding "beach" near where I live), and Kotipanimo Karjalainen (which is just "Home Brewery Karjalainen", based on my family name, which also relates to a former region of Finland...

The "We'll fix your label for you" thread

Kotipanimo Karjalainen is the brewery name (Homebrewery Karjalainen in Finnish), Walko Wehnä (stylized way to write Valko Vehnä, kind of like "Vhite Vheat" instead of white wheat). I'm not too worried about the color, I work with calibrated monitors which gives some confidence for repeatability...

Getting second and third thoughts about this one. Does this need something on the top? And what? Hmm...
