    Don't Do That.

Been there, sort of. A ways back I bought a few kegs and a couple carboys off a guy through Craigslist or something. The carboys were fine, one of the kegs empty, (I did clean it before use, of course...) but the other was mostly full, Of what, he couldn't remember, He'd last brewed at least...

    Don't Do That.

    Iodine?

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Did up some ribs today. Took the day off work getting ready for the kiddo to go back to school on Wednesday. Played a half - round of golf this morning (9 hole course) it was his first time on a full-size gold course, we’d played a pitch and putt a few weeks ago. Came home and cranked up the...

    What are you drinking now?

So this isn’t now; it was last night. But I revisited an old friend - nearly a thousand years old. I still can’t believe it’s only $4 a bottle.

    Love Golf?

Nice, I'm not terribly far from there, pricing is pretty good for a course like that. The one I played was down the Cape - Cotuit Highlands. $20 for me, $10 for the kiddo. Not the greatest course I've played - there was a lot of sand all over, some of the "tee boxes" were driving range mats...

    Love Golf?

Got to play on an actual course for the first time in a long time (like a couple years) yesterday. A 9-hole pitch and putt, but still. And pretty much spur-of-the-moment, I wasn't planning on it, so I didn't have balls or glove or anything, much less my clubs. Brought the kiddo along as his...

    Russian River Saison

I put together a saison recipe that I've rather enjoyed. 75/15/10 Pils, vienna and rye, plus a pound of table sugan to dry it out. Magnum and saaz hopa, saison yeast. I may experiment next time with coriander seed and orange peel, I haven;t decided yet.

Don't throw out that expired dry yeast!

What's your procedure to dry out yeast so it comes back? I don't brew every week like some on here, and I do tailor the yeast to the brew, so I would like to not have to shell out every time. I have tried freezing it with glycerine, with about half-and-half results. As far as the original...

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Didn;t get any pictures, but since Friday was the kiddo's last day of school for the year, I took the day off. Got a batch of my house pale ale brewed (trying out kveik yeast for the first time, and it was ripping less than a day later) and got the smoker going. Couple racks of ribs with coffee...

So what do you seek in a cup?

I've got a few steins that I use now and then, but usually I'll drink from either a British-style Imperial Pint, or a Willi-IPA glass, or a tulip. I do have a pretty sizable collection of glasses in a ton of different styles, but those are the usual go-tos.

So what did you do with your OTHER hobbies today?

You can get a decent smoker for a couple hundred bucks. I got the one from the big box place a ways back for around that a ways back - at the time it was Charbroil brand, now they have the same thing with an Oklahoma Joe branding. It's pretty good, and I'll do some good BBQ on that. (if I say so...

So what did you do with your OTHER hobbies today?

I've got a number of other hobbies besides homebrewing (and drinking.) Combination of a hobby and supporting the kiddo; I spent last night retaping hockey sticks - he plays for the town youth league, and will be adding a club team to that next year. He's a goalie. And with him, I found a local...

    What are you drinking now?

Watching the Four Nations hockey game. Don't have any pics here, but just finished off a Nugget Nectar. Moved on to a Fiddlehead Second Fiddle. If I finish this off before the game is over, I may move on to a homebrew Schwarzbier.

Can you get used/accustomed to smoked beer?

Having tried them on and off over the years, I've never developed a tasted for the heavily smoked beers, the rauchbiers. I don;t mind a touch of smoke in there, especially porters and stouts, things like Jack's Abby's Smoke and Dagger, Sierra Nevada/s Tumbler, and so on.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Not really this weekend, but on Xmas day I brewed up a Schwarzbier - Pilner, Munich and Midnight wheat, Magnum and Hallertau Mittelfreu (OK, I can't spell....) I tried using some saved yeast I had from the last batch I'd done, but when I didn't have any action in 2 days, I pitched in a packet...
