Unfortunately I went against all good judgement and didn't fortify it and just tossed in 1118 cause the place I went to didn't have 71B and forgot to check for some today. However it was so much fun checking the sugar of the juice, tasting a little bit(was so tasty), seeing how the natural yeast...
Just put it on ice packets/cold water in a large pail and put the 5 gallon pail in that pail and put like 10 towels over it, will try and add more ice as soon as it's frozen.
Also added 5 campden tablets dissolved in ¼-½ cup Toronto tap water that's been brita filtered and boiled then cooled...
Thank you Bernard that's a great idea! However I mostly only have a couple 1 gallon carboys, couple 2 gallon pails, 5 gallon pails and carboys.
I guess I could split it 3 ways.
Thank you very much guys for your advice.
Crud I'm daft, should this be refrigerated? I have very busy weekdays so I haven't had a chance to think about this...
I have tomorrow off work so I'm going to start with the campden. But should I pack ice around the bucket until I can pitch the yeast...
So I'm probably in over my head with this but I really need all your help.
I just bought a 5 gallon bucket of Riesling juice from Niagara on Monday I think they just pressed it last weekend. It's suppose to be organic and everything free.
I'd really love for this to turn out great so that's...
Thanks, madscientist for the input I had a feeling the boiled wouldn't be as good. Hopefully, for as cheap as this juice is, it turns out okay. Since boiling takes so many fewer hours I am kinda bummed though, but what's best isn't always easiest!
It's possible but I'm not sure if that has the same effect as I would like, perhaps it will though!?
My purpose for the apple concentrate is to add it to un-concentrated apple juice pre-fermentation to boost flavor, added sugars is merely a bonus for ABV.
It seems to me that this isn't a problem for you folks down in the states, but I've tried looking up here in Canada in about 5 stores so far and online at their inventory but can't find any frozen apple juice concentrate here in Toronto. Perhaps someone knows where to get some there or maybe...
So my impulsiveness as has been at it again. But thank goodness my real yeast finally arrived. But I have more questions and things to confess.
So the picture with the jar of clear Apple juice I put a heaping cup of sugar(0.4- 0.5lbs) and made it into simple syrup and mixed it in and then put...
Haha that is true, although for the most part we are trying to keep our expenses to a minimum as my work has dried up at the moment. Although I do love the idea!
And we are trying to obey the physical distancing rules as best we can be a good example by them also. We just moved 75 miles away...
Oh I've been meaning to ask about bottling as well. Which is going to probably be a big deciding factor on how big of batches I make.
I'd love for it to be carbonated but I do not own a keg and I finally too back all my empties for the deposit a while ago.. Basically all I have to store the...
Right I'll keep that in mind, and the frozen concentrates probably almost outright don't have preservatives due to the preserving nature of low temperatures or is that something to watch out for too?
Edit: I have no experience with beer brewing and hops, may be I'll have to try that out... I...
Oh okay good to know. I was worried I was just kind of doomed that way, but I guess maybe not. Yeah it seems you guys have lots of great places to shop there, best it gets here is about $1CAD a liter or that's probably like $3.80-$4CAD a gallon. Maybe I'll try and see if I can find a better deal...
Okay thanks for your input/advice guys!
Haha yeah, the light switch.. I am in the process of painting just ran out of paint and out of work at the moment... Anyway!
