    Freezer Fermentation Chamber Question

Thanks, steady temperatures are what I'm looking for. This water was several degrees higher when I put it in and has taken longer than I expected to drop to the desired temperature. Given that fluids resist temperature change, I'm fairly confident in the setup's ability to maintain a healthy...

    Freezer Fermentation Chamber Question

With the ambient temperature in my house being around 65-75 (Haven't turned on the AC yet) I purchased a freezer and an STC-1000. It all seems to work fine if I want to maintain an air temperature in the freezer. I placed 5 gallons of warm water (75 degrees) inside and placed the probe...

    Need urgent help!

Exactly how much did you add and by what measurement? IE: Did you add 1 cup? 1 fluid ml?

All my batches have a sharp 'bite' to them

You're right. I should have said "Bad tasting beers are easier to drink if they're ice cold."

    Drinking my first brew

    w00t! Congrats!

All my batches have a sharp 'bite' to them

I wouldn't say that mine have faded but I think other flavors have stepped up to help mask the bite as it's aged. Either that or I'm getting used to the taste. For me, they're a little easier to drink if they're ice cold.

My Stout Tastes Like Soy Sauce

I like the fact that you consider your wife a "witness." As if we wouldn't believe that it tasted good. :-) Sorry to hear about your brew. I intend to try my first stout pretty soon so Yooper's reply will be noted. I'm definitely subscribing to the thread to see how yours turns out.

All my batches have a sharp 'bite' to them

That's good information. A lot of people who have tasted my beer say it tastes "strong." I can't taste anything other than the bitter finish but they claim it has a very strong alcohol taste. If I try hard enough, I suppose I can smell the slightest hint of rubbing alcohol.

    Hydrometer

Lost my second bike after owning it two weeks. Got hit by a girl leaving the DMV after getting her license. She ran a stop sign and didn't have insurance. Lost a good bit of $$ on that. Just as you, lesson learned.

    Hydrometer

I've been down twice and refuse to get another bike. I'm glad you didn't give up so easily with the hydrometers.

All my batches have a sharp 'bite' to them

I experienced a twangy after taste in my first extract kit hefeweizen. It was a bite that finished a little sour on the back of the tongue. Kinda reminded me of...an orange peel? It just had a slight chemical taste to it and I never could figure it out. I was told it came from pitching my...

    Hydrometer

One man, wiser than myself, once stated that there are only two types of hydrometers: ones that are broken and ones that soon will be. Seems like it's just the nature of thin, hollow glass to break.Maybe just have a spare one lying around in case the one you're using breaks?

    Conditioning Question

I think I'll try both then...in separate batches, of course.

    Conditioning Question

Conneryis007...thanks for the advice. Next time I brew a similar style I may give that a shot. BigFloyd...what you're saying makes perfect sense. Irish moss may be a nice addition to my next batch. Thanks for the tips and info.
