    Anyone completely self sufficient?

The more I brew the more I buy. I started into home brewing 25 years ago when “import” beers were exotic. There have been so many fads and trends since that the beer market is un - recognizable. Every rule has been broken and so many of the old brands are gone. How can you learn from other...

ADVICE PLEASE: Tart cherry juice concentrate in a stout

I used to make a black cherry stout every year when the local cherries were cheap. I found that the sweetness is the main flavor in the fruit and it would always disappear in the fermented beer. You are left with the less pleasing of the flavors which are not very “cherry”, more the flavor of...

Difference between HIGH mash + dextrose vs LOW mash

You will end up with a “thicker beer with more mouthfeel. High mash temp creates unfermentable dextrins which remain after fermentation. Adding dextrose will not reduce these, just increase the abv.

Leffe Clone attempt, any way to get FG down

You are pretty close and have good attenuation for a 158 degree mash. I don’t think it is stuck, it is done. You could let it ride until activity stops if you want but I don’t know what would really help final gravity now.

    240v System

R means receptacle P means plug. These should work together. Three wire has two hot wires for 240 volts and a ground. Four wire adds a neutral so you can have 120 volts too, needed for controls and lights unless the system has an internal transformer

Just looking for 2 vessel brewers

I brewed for years with a 100l kettle and a 10 gallon cooler mash tun. I used a stainless mesh in the tun. Heat strike water in the kettle. Mash in. Heat sparge water in the kettle. Sparge and draw off into buckets until the sparge water is used up. Dump the bucketed wort into the kettle and...

Adding fireball to an apple cinnamon wheat ale?

Allen, Kegged or bottled? You can use liqueur for priming sugar if you are bottling. Check out https://blog.eckraus.com/bottling-home brew-with-flavored-liquor. For legging you might consider cinnamon extract. We used to get it at the drugstore to make hot toothpicks. Pour a pint of beer and...

Ideas for insulating a cooler mash tun

What Dade0 said - round 10 gal Igloo holds within a degree for 75 minute mash for me. Just keep the kid on.

Campden tablets for semi-long term keg storage?

My method - take everything apart and clean after the keg blows. Take the poppers apart, run a brush through the tubes, check O-rings, scrub inside with a brush then rinse with one step or pbw. Put it back together and store upside down with the lid off. Before filling flush with sanitizer and...

    Messed Up XLR Pins

By all means continue if you have good results. No intention to start an argument! There are flux products made specially for electrical and electronics applications - I’ll leave it at that.

    Messed Up XLR Pins

You don’t need flux if you have rosin core solder. Plumbing flux is acid and not compatible with electrical connections. The newer no-lead RoHS solder melts at a higher temp, probably not what you want. Plain old 60/40 rosin core should be fine. Make sure to clean the tip of your iron shiny...

DC Motor Control for Grain Mill

Does this motor have a commutator and motor brushes? It might be a “universal” type able to run on ac or dc. Common for older tools and appliances.

Constant recirculation in mash vs other

Snuggie, as I understand it decoction is done on the thick part of the mash first which is meant to leave enzymes behind in the liquid in the MT. In a triple decoction the last step is to heat the thin part of the mash which wipes out enzymes. You do kill enzymes but that is part of the point...

    Inappropriately named brews...

I made “Tripel Nipple” once with a photoshopped label. Most of my others are just puns and not too dirty - did a German wit once with a picture of al old geezer in a Prussian helmet - called it “Herr Ball” after a friend with that last name.
