Fermentation is still going strong after 2 weeks. I don’t typically ferment on the kitchen island so it’s been neat to watch the process unfold each day.
Started a batch last night (on the left) with hefe yeast and a half gallon pineapple juice. Hoping to get some pineapple and banana flavors on top of the apple. Can’t wait to keg and carb
Started a batch based on this recipe last night. Fermenting away and smells great!
I deviated from OP by using 6# local clover honey (lhbs only had 3# containers) and 5 lbs dextrose.
Can’t wait to keg and carb! Been looking to make a good summer beverage besides beer & apfelwein ...
Brewed 5G of this yesterday but mistakenly mashed @160 when it calls for 150. Not sure what I was thinking .. guess it was all the turkey. Anyways, hopefully it turns out ok. I'll know for sure in a couple of weeks.
Cheers!
Joe
This recipe is great! I've brewed variations of this a few times switching between the pale 2-row and marris otter ... both are excellent! This one is just about always on tap :rockin:
I decided to tackle this one today :ban: My current system is BIAB using the 5G paint strainer bags from Lowe's. These comfortably hold around 18lb in my experience so it made things interesting. This recipe scaled to 6G is around 28.5lb so I did two separate 75 min mashes to get it all...
Yeah, it's been right at around 2 weeks. I'm just being impatient ... this batch probably won't last for a 3rd week though :mug:
I'll have to do 10G next time.

Hmm, cracked open two bottles so far tonight and no head. Not sure what I did wrong. Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe it just needs more time ... good beer otherwise!

Thanks for the tip buzzerj! I'll try your suggestion and see how it goes. I have a few of the 1G jugs and would like to be able to dedicate them to meads.

Just did a 1G batch of this using 3lbs OB honey. Can't wait to start sampling in a few weeks! I'm going without an airlock for the first week or so (just using a piece of cloth to keep things out).
This is my first mead attempt so not sure what to expect. I didn't leave much headspace so am...
Thinking about trying this as my first attempt at mead. Question ... It says to "Aerate daily by shaking". Is this just until you start seeing airlock activity or throughout the whole fermentation process? Should an airlock even be used if aerating the primary often is a good thing for mead...
