Specific Gravity - Effected by Straining wort?

So, taste wise, you never noticed more or less hop character by just dumping it all into the fermenter? Do you have any recommendation one way or another?

Specific Gravity - Effected by Straining wort?

So, I recently forgot to sanitize my strainer for a batch of beer so I just poured it into the primary fermenter without straining it. I took a sample to measure specific gravity and it got me to thinking... Will the solution/sediment that is in the beer effect my specific gravity...

Christmas Ale TOO much spice... help?

I was referring to the fact that we probably have more chances of contamination in home brewing, and from what i've read there are other factors that make the beer less ageable as well. From my experience drinking beer, u'r right tho high alcohol/gravity beers of course age better.

Kegging some/Bottling some from same batch - Any ideas?

Should have a purge/pressure valve that you could bleed for a few seconds to let all the O2 out.

Kegging some/Bottling some from same batch - Any ideas?

You could just use priming sugar in the whole batch. I just kegged for the first time as well, and I used priming sugar in the keg. (I did this cus i have 2 kegs running off same regulator so when one runs out, i can just throw in the next and don't have to worry about getting the right...

Christmas Ale TOO much spice... help?

D-kershner, thanks for the temp advice, and i've heard similar advice about making sure to keep the keg pressurized with CO2, but what kind of life does the beer have after its tapped? 2-3 months at most?

Christmas Ale TOO much spice... help?

I brewed it on Oct 21st., kegged it with bottling sugar on nov 7th, and put it into the kegerator on Nov 28th. At this point, do I risk the beer going bad since i've already tapped the keg if I pull it out and let it sit a few more weeks at room temp? Also, is there any advantage to aging it...

Christmas Ale TOO much spice... help?

Hey everyone I was looking for some advice on my first christmas ale. We brewed it 5+ weeks ago, and it is the first one I have ever kegged. I waited 5 weeks before putting it in the kegerator for a day so that I could try it. Well, I'm not disappointed, its decent, but far too much spice...

    cleaning and storing chiller

Same for me, I understand where you are coming from tho, I had the same worry at first. In my first batch using my wort chiller (which i got it used off craigslist) there was a poor seal between the tube and the chiller itself and the hose shot off when i turned it on (i think the steam in the...

    Kegerator Trouble Shoot

Doesn't that seem like an annoying hassle? I guess i'm kind of annoyed that I didn't know this going in or i'd have upgraded. O well. Just FYI, I kegged my first homebrew tonight which is pretty exciting. Its a cristmas ale based off a stone arrogant bastard clone (minus some IBU's of course)

    Kegerator Trouble Shoot

I cleaned the taps today, and that was definitely 90+% of the issue, but why would it get so sticky/clogged? This keg has only been on draft for 3-4 weeks.
