    Shelf life for grain

I was a very frequent homebrewer for a while, but took an extended break after some life events. I'm getting back into things now and doing my first brew this weekend in almost 2 years. I've been inventorying bulk ingredients that I purchased prior to taking a break from brewing. All of the...

1st time grower - EKG and Cascade - Central TX

Update time finally...Cascade is growing nicely. Taking over our fence and growing a bit each day. Can't wait to see it start flowering later. EKG is officially dead. Not because of the climate, but because of some squirrel who can't remember where he buried his nuts.

Who's doing a group brew for National Homebrew Day tomorrow??

Small group brew in my garage tomorrow morning. One other brewer participating with about 3-4 others coming to eat/drink. I'd love to bring along everything to brew with the local club, but 3 15 gal kettles just don't work in a Mini Cooper.

1st time grower - EKG and Cascade - Central TX

The Cascade has taken off and started wrapping around the fence. EKG isn't growing as quickly...we'll see if it takes to the newly added twine. Pics coming soon.

    Fermenter advice

I brew 10 gal batches normally and have used the Fermonster, glass carboys, plastic buckets, and SS Brewtech Brewmaster Bucket. I prefer the SS Brewtech bucket due to ease of cleaning and transferring. The temp probe also is nice. I considered a larger conical, but went with 2 brew buckets...

    Big Brew Day 2017

I am thinking of hosting a few friends to do a mini Big Brew Day. Going to do the saison since I've had some saison yeast sitting in the fridge for a while. I'd love to take my stuff to a club/brewery to take part in a bigger brew day, but with 15 gal kettles and a Mini Cooper, transporting...

1st time grower - EKG and Cascade - Central TX

The cascade has taken off. EKG is growing, but may need a spot with more sun.

    Hello from Italy!

Ciao from Texas. Looking forward to visiting central Italy this summer. I've been seeing the beginnings of some great craft brew make its way from Italy to the states.

Drinking more from kegs versus bottles

Probably drink more when I have kegs around. I do partial pours, like many posts above, but find myself going for refills when down to 1/3 of a glass to mix in cooler beer with the last bit in a glass that has been sitting out for a while. But also depends on style. I had a Cali Common that...

1st time grower - EKG and Cascade - Central TX

Challenge accepted! No, I was pretty sure it was a pipe dream that the EKG would do well, but it is one of the hops that I use the most, so though I'd give it a go.

Blonde Ale Squeeze My Lemon Summer Blonde

This looks like a great recipe. Going to have to give it a try...maybe this weekend. I've been looking for a good blonde recipe with lemon to potentially add basil from the garden.

1st time grower - EKG and Cascade - Central TX

Thanks for the tips! I'll have to keep an eye out for caterpillars. First sign of the cascade. Still waiting on the EKG to emerge. Had a very rainy early week, so hopefully enough to get a good start.

    Texas Texas grains, Texas malt.

Might have to give it a try when my hops crop is ready to do an all TX beer. I know I can order online from TXBrewing, but any chance you guys have broken into the Austin market yet? I can imagine some of the local brewers would love to do an all TX brew.

1st time grower - EKG and Cascade - Central TX

After failing miserably last year, I decided to give it another go. This time, doing a little more than just throwing them in the ground and hoping for the best. (The late plant time and probably dead/free rhizomes didn't help.) And since I'm bad at keeping garden logs, I'll hopefully keep this...
