Could a Norwegian translate Røykmalt? or what is non-malt?

Thanks Ølbart! What do you think of JørnP's recipe? I'm no good at telling if a recipe is good or not just from reading it.

Could a Norwegian translate Røykmalt? or what is non-malt?

I found a recipe on a Norwegian forum attempting to replicate Haandbryggeriet Hesjeøl and one of the entries in the grain bill is "Røykmalt". Google translates this into non-malt. What could that be? I don't speak Norwegian and I'm not a real experienced brewer so any help would be...

    Question about Witbier flavor

Well, I picked up a pack of Hoegaarden Original White Ale and two beers recommended by coworkers: Chimay Grande Réserve (Belgian Strong Dark Ale), and Delirium Tremens (Belgian Strong Pale Ale) It's got to be the yeast, they all have the same flavor in the background that just makes my...

    Question about Witbier flavor

I live by a pretty well stocked liqueur store, I'm sure they'll have Hoegarden but if there's an even better example that might be hard to get I'd like to know.

    Question about Witbier flavor

Bobby M: The recipe is at home (I'm at work right now) but I recall that it did use orange peal and coriander.

    Question about Witbier flavor

Until I watched Beer Wars recently I never realized Blue Moon was made by Coors, I'm ashamed! I typically like Blue Moon so I ordered another Witbier at a local restaurant, Allagash White. The weird peppery aftertaste made it almost undrinkable for me. I checked on Bear Advocate and I saw...

adding hops to Coopers Dark Ale?

Final update: There was alot of hops sediment in the fermenter, I was using the Cooper's kit that has a spigot on the bottom so every time I took samples to check the gravity it was full of hop particles. I went to my LHBS (named myLHBS) and picked up a better bottle for a secondary and an...

What's the point of a racking cane when...

An auto-siphon is just a better racking cane. I don't see a reason to use a normal racking cane if you have an auto-siphon, maybe give it to a friend who's interested in home brewing.

adding hops to Coopers Dark Ale?

Thanks for the advice, I don't plan on using any of the coopers kits in the future, I figure this as my transition from the no-boil kits to partial extract brews (I hope I can snag a stainless steel turkey fryer from Wal-Mart after Thanksgiving). My first brew was a lager so I was surprised by...

adding hops to Coopers Dark Ale?

Wow, this made me realize I need to get a bigger pot, I almost had a boil over a few times at the beginning. I did a 30 minute boil with the DME added at the start, hops at 15 and the coopers malt extract at 5. I forgot to split the hops like ManyBrews mentioned, just got too caught up in the...

adding hops to Coopers Dark Ale?

Thanks for the tips, although it leads to another question: I've heard that the coopers kits malt extract is pre-hopped and boiling it will boil off a portion of the hoppyness. Would the 1oz of Goldings be enough to make up for the lost flavor or should I get some more? I enjoy some pretty...

adding hops to Coopers Dark Ale?

I got the Coopers Kit last Christmas and I brewed the Lager that came with it pretty much by the book and it came out pretty good. For my birthday I was given the Coopers Dark Ale kit so I decided to tweak things a bit. I went down to the local brew store for the first time and I was...

    Bad Luck Brew label

Hi, I'm new here and I just started my first batch of lager in the cooper's kit. If I go by the standard 3 in primary, 3 in bottle the beer should be ready on Friday the 13th of February. So I'm calling it "Bad Luck Brew" I'd like everyone's opinion on which label they prefer or any other...
