    Thoughts on pumpkin ale

A local brewery makes an excellent pumpkin beer that is almost perfect IMO. However when they serve it they rim the glass with cinnamon sugar and that just takes it to a whole new level. Maybe you could try something like that until the spice flavor shines through some more. Sent from my...

    Bjcp scores?

Now I gotcha. Still curious to get my score sheets and see the feedback. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Bjcp scores?

Some of the styles were grouped together. I guess if certain styles didn't get many entries. But this one was 23 entries in Style 14. I am guessing they were all in the same group. Last year I think they had two judges do each beer. Because I think I remember getting two sets of notes for...

    Mash Tun

Maybe use a paint strainer bag around the end of your siphon? Would that work? You may not get enough flow to keep the siphon going though. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Bjcp scores?

Apparently I scored a 45 on an IPA from a competition this past weekend. But as far as I can see on the website it didn't get first, second or third in its category. Only about 23 entries in that category too. Still waiting for the score sheets to come in the mail to see the notes. I can...

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

If anyone brews this amazing recipe do yourself a favor. Toss 10 Andes candies into a one gallon jug and siphon off a gallon after initial fermentation is done and let it sit for a week or two. I did this as well as two other gallons of experimental secondaries and the mint one is amazingly...

    Mint in an imperial stout

I recently added Andes Candies to a brew. I made 5 gallons of the Deception Cream Stout and siphoned 3 gallons off into 3 separate jugs to do some experimenting. And in one of those jugs I tossed in 10 Andes candies and racked on top of them. The leftovers after bottling tasted really good...

    A sad day

I dropped mine on the floor and shattered it before. Got a dial thermometer after that. Easy to use, easy to calibrate. And I have dropped it before and it hasn't broken.....yet. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Fermentation Chamber Built...now how to manage temperature (STC-1000)

FYI here is the exact picture I used to wire my STC 1000. I found it in one of the other build threads but I forget which one. I felt it was the best and easiest way to wire it because you only need to use one outlet. I just got a replacement power tool cord and receptacle at Lowes and a...

Fermentation Chamber Built...now how to manage temperature (STC-1000)

For the cooling you just plug the freezer or fridge right into the outlet that is wired to the temp controller. No splicing required to the freezer. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Fermentation Chamber Built...now how to manage temperature (STC-1000)

Here is a picture of mine. STC is dual temp. Freezer plugs in to one side of outlet on back of the project box. The heater plugs into the other side. Then just lay the wires in and close the lid. Easy as pie. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Fermentation Chamber Built...now how to manage temperature (STC-1000)

Why drill holes? You can just run the sensor and heat source wires through the door seal. If you have a rubber or foam strip it will seal around the wires. I built a chamber by putting a wood collar on a chest freezer. Then put a rubbery foam strip of insulation on the bottom of the collar...

    Beer Labels

Hot water and oxiclean free in a cooler. Keeps the water hotter/warmer longer. Let them soak overnight and most labels fall right off. I hit the remaining labels and adhesive with steel wool or a Brillo pad. Comes off with very little effort. But like others have said, certain brands don't...

Looking for hop storage container recommendations

You could use Dixie cups. I just use very small Tupperware containers and take a few minutes to weigh hops while water is heating up for the mash or the boil.
