    FlyGuy's T-siphon: a $3 replacement for an autosiphon

I'm gonna make one of these. I scanned the thread, but didn't see a source for the red hose clamp. Anybody know where to get that piece? Thanks.

    Fridge Conversion

I'd go to kegconnection.com and get the 4-spigot kit minus the CO2 tank. I'm gonna do a similar (2-spigot) thing with a smaller fridge. I'll be mounting my tank outside the fridge to save space and maximize usable gas from the (room temperature) cylinder.

    Smelly Fermentation Chamber

Sorry, I reread your post and see that you're lagering in the freezer, not fermenting. My bad. In that case, I'd either try to get it out of there, or run a "blowoff" tube from your airlock to the outside of the freezer to keep any nasty air from migrating into the beer.

    Smelly Fermentation Chamber

Smell shouldn't have any effect on the fermenting beer. Gases are only supposed to be coming OUT of your fermenter. When you get a chance, you should bleach the heck out of the inside of the freezer, let it soak, rinse, repeat, then let it air out a few days. After that, close it up for a week...

    Kegerator Project. Dumb Question?

Thanks for the responses. TwoHeads, your pic was what gave me the idea when I saw it. Any reason why you've got the regulators mounted so high? Is it so they're at eye-level? I'll just take it slow and be careful if I can't find a diagram for the specific model I end up with.

    Kegerator Project. Dumb Question?

I'm looking through c/l for a used fridge. I'm gonna convert it to a kegerator, but want to leave the CO2 tank outside. Can I drill a hole through the SIDE of the fridge for the gas line without worrying about hitting any refrigerant lines? I've been told that there are no lines in the sides...

    Man, I HATE Bottling....

I make an Iodophor solution in a big tray/tub for sanitizing utensils and stuff. I have no running water in the basement. I do have a bottling bucket. I was trying to rack to it when I had my issues. I'm concerned about the Iodophor leaving a taste in my bottles. I just rinse them. I...

    bottling alone?

I've always bottled alone. I usually make a mess. Never used those "wing" cappers though.

    Man, I HATE Bottling....

After starting this thread on 5/25, I bottled another batch on 5/26. My hatred of bottling is now ten-fold. It went something like this: On the night before, started a soak of all my (plastic) bottles in sodium percarbonate. Bottling day, got up & started tedious task of rinsing all the...

    Man, I HATE Bottling....

Well, I DID say that was 1/2 the reason ( I guess "one of the reasons" would be more grammatically correct). I also didn't know back then that sanitization could be so easy. I was using bleach at the time & had to rinse and rinse and rinse. There were other factors at work too, not the least of...

    Man, I HATE Bottling....

You know, I thought about that. I use Iodophor on my fermenters, utensils and such, but I thought the cumulative effect of the residue in all those bottles might effect the taste. It seems that a bottle, on a percentage_of-volume basis, retains more residue than a fermenter or other large container.

    Man, I HATE Bottling....

Just bottled my first batch in many years. Now I remember 1/2 of why I quit brewing 8 years ago. Bottling is such a hassle! I bottle with plastic amber PET bottles, since I thought they would be easier than glass. They have draw-backs too though. You can't sterilize with heat. That rules the...

    Not experienced enough

Yeah, I've been there years ago. Unfortunately, that's the closest shop to me and it takes me over an hour to get there. I'm east of McDonough. I'd like to source some fairly local base malt for around or just north of a buck a pound. The retail brick-and-mortar stores usually don't get close to...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I used brown sugar so, technically, I guess mine ain't Apfelwein either. At least that's what was said (somewhere) earlier in this thread. Yes, I've read it ALL. I need a life! And to get uber-"snarky", according to EdWort, who (IIRC) has seen and drank (drunk?) the real thing, the original...

    Not experienced enough

RCannin, I see you're in GA too. Not to hi-jack your thread (I know nothing about AG, but want to get into it), but where do you get your grain from? We in GA can't buy from BMW, so I'm looking for a local, cheap source. What part of the state are you in? FWIW, I don't think the hops can skunk...
