I use them as mulch around tomato plants and other plantings. They seem to help reduce the weeds and I haven't had any problems with deer or other critters eating the grains. I don't know why that is, but it's been OK so far (2 years).

Your FG should certainly be in the 1.005 - 1.010, but your OG seems low too. You didn't say how long you ferment your batches, so that could be one problem. Let them go for a good two weeks before bottling. I'm curious to know if you can detect an appreciable sweetness to the final beer? If...
