Northern Brewer Irish Red Ale - Head Retention Improvement

I've made this kit 3 times. I get what you're saying about head retention. No ideas on how to fix that. But, in another vein, I added 2 lbs clover honey to my last batch and honestly I think it was way better than the first two. I even drank it a little younger (5weeks) tha usual (7weeks)...

    Cold crash to gelatin?

I've never had to swirl it. But, there are different schools of thought on adding it. I've seen some on here say they only add it while transfering to secondary, like you would when adding the sugar water before bottling, to ensure it is evenly distributed. But, the beer has to be cold when...

    Cold crash to gelatin?

Answer: 1) If you're already in a carboy or your cold crashing technique can be used on a bucket, then no, I don't think you need a secondary. I took out my shelves/freezer from my old dorm fridge from college so I can fit a carboy in there no worries. Can't fit a bucket though so I need to...

    Please overlook my water profile

Is there like a water profile starter thread? I'd be interested in learning some more. Maybe a podcast or something?

    Are there degrees of sanitation?

Grainy gritty like having sand in your mouth? Dirt like earthy? Maybe kind of close to 'musty'? I'm kind of new to all this, but how are you brewing? Extracts? If its LME, maybe it's past its prime?

Stone and the difference a yeast makes

BTW Checked out inside my primary after a week. Like i said, first time using wyeast, its a french saison..also used late addition method with the extract. Never had a better looking or better smelling beer after a week. Fighting all my instincts to transfer it to the glass carboy to get a...

Stone and the difference a yeast makes

I'm about to get my own lesson. I ordered the Petite Saison d'Ete Extract Kit w/ Specialty Grains but this time instead of getting the dry safale I went with the wyeast french saison. I paid my extra 4.99 and I'm hoping to see a real difference.

How to dry bottles without a bottle rack?

+1. If I am being smart and cleaning the bottles a week or so before bottling, I soak them in bleach, then rinse well and run them through the dry cycle. However if I've only got a day or so I soak it in star san for a minimum of 24 hours, then rinse, then put a tiny bit of sanitzer solution...

    sediment after bottling

sediment is completely normal. My first batch I had a solid 1/4 inch of it. Now on my 5th I've got little to none...you'll get better fast. Look into cold crashing and gelatin or irish moss https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f13/cold-crash-question-76512/...

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

I'm looking for a cheaper way to make this kit....so far I got 48+shipping from northern brewer and 44+shipping from AHS....any other places to look?

First batch drank onto bottling the next!

I bottled with table sugar today and used 5/8 a cup per 16 OZ, so that's an 1/8 c more. My first time though with the table sugar so who knows.
