Fermzilla owners - threaded ring smelled weird after fermentation

In its first use, fermentation went on for 12 days before transferring beer to keg. Opened it up to clean and... the threaded lid ring's threads had a strange aroma like evergreen. I don't know if it makes any difference but this was a Tripel using WLP550 The smell in the threads did not...

Somebody give this dude a medal. I'll give it a go with my current (leaky) gauge. Will report results, THANK YOU!

Hoist point for bag lift, advice needed please

Yo friends, remember when I said... Yeah, the dude built this amazing monstrosity for me. All from scrap metal. The dude won't take money! Was the ladder great? Absolutely! It's hard to say which I prefer. The ladder - arms get in the way. But it's light. Folds to a pretty...

Moving from propane to eBIAB - talk me out of it (or into it)

Welcome @Random_aussie Yes, a dolly is what we call it. This could be useful for other folks. In the meantime, I have figured out a way to continue with my propane setup and hit my favorite pro point. Everything gets done in one place now, saving excessive lifts and physical labor. For...

BlowTie spunding valve help needed, please

Clarification. The open side of the QD is what's leaking. The side which connects to the post of the keg, for example. So, I'm assuming the poppet inside of it isn't making a tight seal. I can take it apart and apply a little lube to the flat washer inside... Not sure how much it'll help...

BlowTie spunding valve help needed, please

The MFL of the QD? Sure! I can try that. THAT SETTLES IT! Exactly the problem I'm having. I can't pull the tubing back after shoving it in because there's not enough "meat". Well, I can do that routine for one side of it but that leaves very little tubing for the fitting on the other...

BlowTie spunding valve help needed, please

The saga continues... 1) I put it on a keg with a known pressure of 12psi. The gauge on BlowTie measures 8psi. 2) I performed a submersion leak test. First, the gas QD. I was troubled that the bottom / poppet end was blowing a big bubble every 10 seconds. The only thing I could think of was...

BlowTie spunding valve help needed, please

That all sounds awful, yuck. Difficult to call yours an isolated incident with all of those failures. Glad to say that I have very few DuoTight parts in the mix. Perhaps I should consider different solution if the failure rate is as high as you've experienced. :-/

Thanks for the update! I can't say I had high expectations for the technology (for lack of a better term). I'll probably repeat the same tests that you've performed now that we are assured it's safe to submerge the gauge. When I get time, I'll do that and report back.

Attn: cold weather brewers, I need an alternative to outdoor water supply

Sounds like it, haha Trying to avoid that, if I can. A great concept. If you can swing it, go for it. I don't have the budget though... Well, I've got that spigot in the same wall with clothes washer supply pipe so, again, I'm inclined to believe that spigot won't freeze. Outbound IC...

Attn: cold weather brewers, I need an alternative to outdoor water supply

Indeed, the hose is stored in the same heated garage. The heat never runs to the point of "Whoa, it's toasty in here." but it's held in the mid 60s. Kicks on as needed to protect garage / save energy costs. I should have mentioned that I am now using an RV hose for the water supply...

Attn: cold weather brewers, I need an alternative to outdoor water supply

I finally fixed my process to use outdoor spigot (for garden hose, etc) for brew day water needs. Strike water via RV hose and cleaning. I'm very pleased with how much better my brew day went. However, it won't be safe to use that spigot in cold weather months. The only solution I came up...

    Quick closed transfer questions

HUH!!! I have a Blichmann beer gun, never used. And a pressure-rated vessel... Got me thinking now. Sorry, there's no way I'm dumping any excess...unless it's only a pint.

    Quick closed transfer questions

Already done. ;-) So, 5 psi on the FV CO2 supply pressure and 3 psi on the receiving keg OK? I suppose I could figure out a way to set spunding valve to 3 and attach that to the keg... Or I could just follow these steps and be done with it. 4-ish psi CO2 supply on FV, gas QD on receiving...
